Totally new to shooting: Where to start?

Post by 0_fr3ddy » 08 Mar 2020, 9:06 pm

I'm totally new to shooting and hunting, and don't really know anyone who is into it to ask the basic questions. My news years resolution was to go rabbit hunting, but I don't really know how to go about it. Should I join a gun club (like Melbourne Gun Club) to get training and eventually a license first? Or is there another route I should take? I'm in Victoria BTW.

Whereabouts in Victoria are you?
Have you been to any shooting clubs or ranges for a look?
Have you done any shooting at all?

SE Suburbs, not been to a range to have a look yet, but Springvale is near-ish me so I should probably go check that out. Shot some clay pigeons years ago, but nothing recently. I guess I should go to one of those "come and see" days?

Goto Springvale range. Cost you about $35 bucks plus another 10/15 for ammo etc. They explain how to safely hold the gun how to shoot etc.... plus the love to yell so don't get upset or scared of them yelling.

Do a few days, you will need to get your cat a and b license. Then Buy a gun. For hunting if you know someone with land in the country address with a rabbit problem that will be best.

Join a gun club and do their course, licence up and buy a gun. Its a lengthy process but well worth it.
