Emu's are another animal you think would bounce but doesn't a bloke i know totaled his car by hitting one and another time i was following a double decker full of cattle and an emu stepped off a roadside and the semi hit it full on seconds later the biggest chicken leg cart wheeled up the side of my car and blood and intestines came from under the trailer to be greeted by me luckily my car never sustained any major damage but had to drive 60 clicks to wash the mess of the car and boy didn't i receive some strange looks from passing cars till i got to the creek.

Emu. Big bird small brain .....how many times in Australia has a hunter, in a Ute or on a quad been driving along a Fence line with a small mob in front ....they could instantly detour off into the bush but they always stay on the track and wait till they are exhausted a k or 2 later. ...maybe they are bored and playing games with us laughing all the way

i've been of the opinion dawn/daybreak is a risky time for animal strikes . i've got a trip to western QLD coming up , i'm gunna be extra cautious after reading all the posts on this topic .thanks for sharing everybody, on ya fellas

for night driving what are opinions on car lighting ? spotlights or lightbar mounted on the bull bar ? pro's and con's

BR - some light bars have angled reflective lenses on some of the side lights - which light up / are pointed to sides of road. They really help.

Ligyht bars on top of the bull bar are I Think mostly illegal .....unless u live I the bush I think u may lose a spotlight maybe once every ten years From roo strike .......if u are really worried boy kings instead of light force

i've already got holes in the main "bar" of the arb on my tojo . rod carriers on top of the bullbar are illegal too unless your on the beach . i'm not really worried , i'm just like a good boy scout in being prepared kings is good value for money , i got one of the kings 60 ltr fridge/freezers . great bit of gear . i really don't want to look to see if it's china made but
i'm also trying to get away from buying more guns i don't really need and putting more usefull mods on my fourby and putting money aside for trips out bush

I have 60 litre kings fridge too. I love the way I can crank it to minus 25 when I have to pull down fast ...and I love a really Ice cold jack with my breakfast after a big night of thermal hunting on my quad

Roof mounted light bars are legal, as long as they are in front of the B pillar, and do not reflect back into the cabin. Spot lights must be symmetrical to the center of the vehicle IE if 1 spotlight must be in the center, 2 spotlights either side of center. A lightbar counts as one spotlight. They must not be wired independently of your headlights, but can have a switch to turn them off. Most people around here mount 2 spots, LED or HID, a short bar below and a combo spot/flood roof mount. Switched so that you can turn on in combination of light you want depending on the road, or lack of road, conditions.

And if you are getting up there in years, an extra set of eyes goes a long way in helping to spot suicidal animals.
