You'd think that once you've proven who you are to get the licence......it would be accepted as fact.
There is no connection between the different kinds of check either.
Through work I sometimes process Police & criminal history checks for clients and to get given access to the system I had to go through the checks myself.
I assumed - incorrectly as it turns out - that having gone through everything for the firearms license I could just supply verified copies of my ID to prove I was who I said and that would do. That's not the case though, my license was just used as another form of identification but I was submitted through all the usual checks. The checks done for the shooting license didn't count for anything.
There's also different levels of checks. The Police & criminal history checks just show convictions, not charges, court appearances etc. Really just for checking for any dishonesty offences for general business, or driving offences if you wanted to become a cabbie etc. They'll release the info of a conviction if it's relevant for the reason the check is being done, if you have a conviction they feel is unrelated they won't release the info.
In most states there is also a 'Working with children' check which goes beyond that. If you'd been charged of a child related offence but not convicted and applied for a job at a school this would still be shown in the report. But then Tasmania and SA don't have this check, so if you're caught up in something in QLD that prevents you from working there with kids you can move to Tas or SA and it wouldn't come up in a Police & criminal history check there

It's all over the place.
