Electronic earmuffs for shooting

HI guys,

What electronic earmuff do you guys use? I've narrowed it down to either the spika or the howard leight impact sport.

The spika reaction time is 2ms, I think, it was featured in Aug Shooter.

Couldn't find the reaction time for the howard leight, however, it has the most reviews.

I was just wondering what you guys are using? I LOVE the sound of gunfire, the louder the better, but I don't want to lose anymore of my hearing.

I shoot 22, 223, 308.

The gel cups keep your ears from getting sweaty! Well worth it.

I bought a pair off ebay. I didn't expect much for $30, but am actually really happy with them. Given that a cheap ebay pair works really well, i would assume they all would, so my suggestion would be go for comfort

I've got the Howard Leight Impact's. Love them. Easy on batteries, they shut off after 4 hours of inactivity. I don't know what the reaction time is but I've never been caught by a shot while I'm wearing them. From memory mine were about $50 delivered from eBay

I have my self a pair of night prowlers. They work well in all types of situations noise related...I personally like then allot. I can always hook my iPod up to them as well if I'm desperate for music lol

I have a Caldwell, nothing fancy but it does the job.

These are my first one's so cant comment on how good they are only that they work well at the range or bush, when quiet can still hear people talking but not 100% would pay a bit extra for next set.

Howard are well known for their quality hearing protection. They will be one of the better ones.

have you had any problems with them? you can turn up the volume right? have got problems with distinguishing which direction the sound is coming from with them on? they suit my current budget just fine. if they are alright, i might just get a pair.

i still can't justify why is it USD40, CDN75 and AUD 92

So the important tech specs not mentioned yet are what actual decibel reduction and at what rate/speed do your muffs operate at. Not all are created equal.

I like all muff. We have a TV series running in the US now on AMC called "HUMANS" that is all about electronic muff

PS Buy qualty. If you are talking about range work at least 26db reduction. For hunting only a lower rating would be ok,, say 22db

Sorry I missed this, only problem I've had was left one of them on and flattened the batteries, but like I said I would pay a bit extra now I've tried this type of muff.

Spent 6 hours at the range shooting 308. Surrounded by more people shooting more things, they work very well. Cut out loud noise and amplify 'normal' sound, talking etc. Couldn't be happier with them. Well, I probably could, but I am very happy.

I'm running a set o 3m Peltot SportTac electronic ear muffs

I've thrashed them for a few years now and they have preformed flawlessly.

They are great for giving you a sense of direction, have volume control, auto timeout, rated class 4 and when turned up to full amplification you can hear a pin drop at 100 yards.

I'll be getting the Howard Leight Impact Sport as that suits my budget the best. I've got a colleague going to the states in september, hopefully I can get her to do me a favour and bring me back a set.

Howard & Peltor are both good gear. Just make sure your mate gets Class 4 or 5.
