The passing of shooting mates

Post by Noisydad » 15 Sep 2015, 7:58 am

On Sunday, before our monthly long arms comp started our black powder club made our traditional "Wall of Smoke" twice, with rifles loaded, made ready and fired in a volley as per the RO's orders to mark the passing of two members in the last month. The smoke and booming sound of 40-50 black powder rifles breaking the silence and firing together is very stirring and I've always thought it a very appropriate way recognize lost friends and colleagues and wonder does your club do anything similar?

There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

Sorry to hear it, but what a wonderful tribute! I'm not a member of any clubs right now, just shoot on private land.

When my grandfather passed we held a ceremony at his rifle club as per his wishes .
All the club members lined up and fired down range in his memory and his ashes were scattered there that day.
Gun control requires concentration and a steady hand

I've never witnessed anything like this but what a great send off to a mate!

I'm not involved with any clubs enough for such things but I've seen a few little private send-offs at the end of a firing line.

I'm at that age too where mates start to go.

Sorry to hear that mate, always sad to loose friends. I want to be loaded up and shot out of a barrel when it's my turn to go, I reckon that would be a fitting end to my life.

That'd be a bit messy wouldnt it? :wtf:
What about...Instead of a 21 gun salute, how bout a 21 fox cull and then make the pelts form the logo for Enough gun?

Im wondering if 21 would be enough though.

Hunter S Thompson had his ashes shot out of a cannon on top of a 50m tall tower while music played and fireworks went off. Why settle for just being loaded into a rifle?

Some of the boys do actually use cannon for live firing target comps so being loaded into a packet of powder and ignited is entirely doable!

I just heard that one of my club's founding members died on Monday (truck accident), he was there on Saturday larger than life and as usual the life of the party. I still can't believe he's gone.

A couple of us are thinking that next month's annual rendezvous should be named after him, I think this is a great idea but I also LOVE the idea of a black-powder salute and I will suggest that as well.

Better make it 210.

10 shots for every one of the classic salute.

I think we have enough spare foxes
