Looks good, I for one have no issue with restoring old beaters. Resale value be damned, especially if it's a keeper. I've always thought if you maintain the original intent on a milsurp (assuming it's not a historically significant model) then they look great with a freshen up.

Just funny pic, Elek. They have a bit of it on them... Not too much, but enough to warrant a good scrubbing.

Crikey  A full strip for cleaning :o Pretty sure they didn't do that with Lee Enfields. They did boil-out the barrels though..........I think. Would that be less time consuming for you mate?

For a more traditional 'authentic' finish, try a mix of equal parts turps, BLO and plain beeswax. Warm it up in the sun or some non flame heat source mix it all up, will make a paste. Rub it in with a green scourer first couple coats (less is more ). Buff with a cloth once dry. After you have a few coats rub it in with a cloth. Gives a lovely satin sheen.

I don't really care about the resale value. Well, not on that one anyway. It's fun to shoot, so I got it back into shape, so it's not fugly. :D

It was going back in the safe for don't know how long, so had to clean all the corrosive salt particles things off of it, after shooting corrosive ammo. Modern factory ammo or reloads, I just patch the bore...

Has your bolt needed a hammer to open yet?

No, can't say I need a hammer on either one of them. Not the easiest to open after it been decocked, especially when I am used to Tikka. But, after polishing the firing pin, it's excellent.

Where did you source a full can of surplus ammo? I'm trying to find one and I've had no luck.

Wow, this is my first post in quite a while!
