Worked all day hunted half the night. Just stepped of the quad 1/4 to midnight. Feeling a bit shagged

Cleaned up the shed and made some space, loaded some rounds and went and shot some paper. Came away reasonably pleased, but more to do now. Then went for a quick walk up a little creek and found a couple of wallows that look like they're about to kick off so might have to re-visit later.

Loaded up some subsonic rounds last week, but struggled to come up with a positive identifier to keep them separate in the field from full noise rounds, so in the end I made up a jig to just file the tip off the projectile enough that I can easily pick the difference by eye or hand. Went and ran them through some paper and it looks the goods, hardly more kick/noise than a .22mag and pretty well dead on at 50m so now just need to run them through a goat to see terminal performance. I'm tempted to get some subx, but I'll try these (interlocks) first.

Also took the air rifle for a spin, had been having trouble with grouping so gave it to the unc to fix, which he did mostly, but the groups started opening up a lot again. Went over it with a fine tooth comb and discovered that the fore stock had a little wiggle so i dropped in a couple of spacer washers to bring the screws up tight against the wood before they bottomed out. Much better now, have it down to a little over a thumnail at about 18m. Interestingly, it's one of the pellets that it didn't like before and the one it did like is no better than average :unknown: If it happens again, I may have crack at pillar bedding the screws and then bedding the action as well.

Went and hung the camera over the pair of wallows I've been keeping an eye on, though they were hardly touched while another that I found another day is completely chopped up, so I might go back and change it over. The new one is only a couple of hundred meters from the road, and is easily glassable from a distance but might take a bit to get into quietly for a sit 'n' wait.

Picked up a kg of 2206H also, so that should keep me out of trouble for a while

Just watched 20 minutes of it.

You wouldn't give either of them the responsibility of looking after a 22lr, let alone about 300 nukes.

Could be dangerous times ahead.

Hell, don’t listen to me, I know nothing! I’m more concerned with having a solid base for the action screws so they don’t keep coming loose.

I did consider building another stock, but I’ll wait and see how it goes as is or with pillars first.

G'day,

Shot a fox last night and went out this morning about 9:00 AM to collect it and put it where the local wedgetails could come for a meal and so I could take some photos of them. Well, the hungry blighters got there first and, by the blood on the ground where the fox had dropped, had a good feed before taking the rest home for later consumption. There was nothing left. I guess it's that cold and there isn't a lot of tucker around even for eagles.

Nice Pete!

Strange question, but how does one get someone put on a spam email list? I keep getting rubbish spam from a company I didn't sign up for (was a 3rd party sponsoring a comp I entered), and each time I try and unsubscribe I end up getting more junk - it's up to 2 a day now. It's one of my junk addresses for this very reason, but I'd like to give them a little of their own medicine.

Wed: Took a spill off my mountain bike acting half my age

Thurs: Spent 5 hours in ED getting xrays on a suspected fracture in my wrist. Thankfully it was only soft tissue damage which left me with 2 sore wrists, a sore shoulder and bruised jaw (thought I'd dislocated it at the time)

Fri: Took off for an o/nighter to a very well known forrest for fallow, a new spot for me so a mate who's hunted there a bit hooked me up with a few suggestions. I had a 10-15min standoff with 3 sambar at about 40m and could possibly have shot the hind that was honking at me, but let them go. Bumped another mob of sambar before climbing back up the ridge via a creek bottom I'd hoped would be a nice open gully. Wrong on all counts, was very tight and full of brush and the climb out was a little harder than I thought it would be. The only grace was finding a cast fallow antler (probably last years going on age) and a heap of sign, both fallow and sambar. Was almost back at the car when I found a pair of lyrebirds having a call off about 75m apart - the understorey was too dry to get close enough to see them, but I found a number of cleared dance floors and their repertoire was amazing to hear: Black cockies, grey and pied currawongs, magpie, kookaburra, grey shrike and possibly a car alarm. Also bumped a very dishevelled sambar that I only got a brief glimpse of before getting back to the car.

Headed round to a very large open area my mate has shot a few fallow in, and waited out the last 30min of light but nothing doing. Ended up camping there for the night which may have been a mistake as it was somewhat colder than the creek bottom I'd originally thought to pull up in. My car consistently reads higher than actual, and it felt as cold as any frosty -5 morning in NZ.

Had heard dogs barking in the evening which were a fair chance of wild dogs - too far to houses, though there was at least one other campsite in the larger area and this area is baited/trapped heavily.

After a cold start, I packed up and headed back to civilisation and then onto check out a couple of other potential and somewhat closer spots. One I know of from watching videos on the pewtube, and was glad to find I can get there in my 2wd car (in the dry anyway), so I've got definite fallow, sambar and goats to chase there, along with a sniff of reds. The other spot was a little different, bigger more open with taller trees but thicker brush and understorey.

Arrived home a little after lunch yesterday, all in all a good trip with some new areas covered and some more to have a look at with about a dozen sambar and 7 fallow spotted (on the way out in farmland unfortunately).

Push bikes ate dangerous man.

I stuffed around with my little 36 calibre Seneca, Jemima, today. Wanted to see if a 30gn charge of 2f would shoot accurately.
First mistake was not checking to see if the flash channel was clear, which resulted in me pulling the rifle apart to get the ball and charge out.
Then I tried to sight it in and made every mistake you can make, like moving the sights the wrong way and not seating the ball against the powder properly.
Then run out of caps but at least I'm on finally AND the load has good potential, it put 2 shots through the same hole at 35m before I started stuffing around.

It was stinking hot and humid today and the bugs were out. Used 400 salt shots at the range taking out horse flies with the Bug A Salt Shredder.

I had a few visitors for a cook out and we did some shooting with my CZ Scorpion 3, a Beretta 81 in 32 ACP, a Walther PPQ and a Glock 21. They had only shot a few guns before so I worked with them to teach them a few things. A good day overall.

The one guy has a .22 pistol but had never shot anything other than that. So it was good they got to experience some new stuff. I worked with them on a few skills also.

The other thing is I am experimenting with prism sights, so I put a Vortex Spitfire prism on the CZ Scorpion and I am liking it better. It has a glass etched reticle and unlike a red dot you can adjust the focus plus you can use either green or red illumination and dial it up or down.

Bloody fencing

Just got all my bits ready to start welding and the active pin on the power plug broke off.
I've often wondered why the ones with the plastic sheath on active and neutral were so weak, now I know, there's a big hole in them right at the stress point, bastards.

Nice Bream OB, been aaaaaaaaaaaaages since I caught one of them.

Went and sat over a rabbit warren at the olds, missed one and then the other bolted with it after I managed to re-load and was waiting for it to come closer. Bloody cat was on the prowl! Managed to lip squeak it in to about 2m before I scared the crap out of it by jumping up and hissing at it

How tough are cats? Could have easily shot it in the face at 5m (.22 air rifle) but it looks pretty domestic, so let my mum know that if she knows who owns it that it might not come home next time

Just shoot it. 22 air rifle will do the job.

I spent the day suffering a horrible head cold, doing laundry, moving cattle around, mowing my mates lawns while being chased and stung by his bees, helping a farmer friend with her pest problem, and delivering fruit to another farmer mate. And sleeping as much as I can trying to recuperate

I saw pig scratchings within 50m of the house yard yesterday, so I spent the night sitting waiting, waiting, waiti..........woke up half an hour ago with dribble on my chin, and all my joints rusted up.
To add insult to injury, there was a fresh pig turd at the scratched point.

Lolololol !

I set up a game camera over a fresh fallow buck scrape a week ago, checked it 3 days later, nothing but trespassers on it,then checked it Thursday and discovered that I'd accidentally turned it off last check, and that the buck had been back and freshened the scrape within the last 24 hours ! Doh !
