New to forum

Post by wrenchman » 14 Mar 2014, 11:50 am

I am new here to the forum I am from the states and I like to hunt and shoot and how it is done in other areas of the world.

I will most likely just read posts but I will post some time and please let me be up front if I say something rude in any way it is not meant that way.

I live in Michigan and I hunt deer, bear, small game like rabbits and birds like grouse. I do understand some of the firearms I use you can't but many of them are the same.

I would list some of my guns but I have manny I collect them I just got 2 one a 6.5x55 and a 300 win mag.

About the only hunting going on right now are small game and the cold weather has been keeping us in doors.

Welcome, its always nice to hear about all the toys we Aussies can't own, and the places few of us have the opportunity to go and hunt. Make sure you include plenty of pics.

Welcome Mate.

Michigan's a nice place. I was in Ann Arbor and a few of the surrounding places for a few weeks last year.

I saw a few people driving round with a couple of deer hanging out the back on the trip ;)

Deer hunting is religion here in my state some parts of the state mostly the south 1/3 of the state we can only use a shot gun or muzzle loader for the gun season.

I like to take my 870 rem when I hunt in the south part of the state with a rifle barrel and premiere rounds I get 4570 ballistics if I hunt in the north I like to hunt with my 30-06 Remington 7400.

I have 2 sons and my 18 year old son hunts with me the most he lives and breaths hunting my older son is in college and just does not seem to have time and they have there choice of guns when they hunt.

New bloke on the block

Post by Jamesy » 30 Mar 2014, 12:39 pm

G'day everyone,

I've been lurking here for countless months but finally decided to sign up. I grew up in country Victoria but have spent the last 10-odd years living in Melbourne and Brisbane. So now that I've moved back to the country it was time to get back to the hobbies I've missed out on for the last few years.

I got straight back into it and dragged my old man to the Gun Emporium in Melbourne and picked up a Miroku MK-11 for him and an MK-10 for me. The old boy replaced his old Miroku MK-800 with the new 11. My older brother also has a Miroku MK-7000. Along with a bunch of other rifles (.22, .223, .177) So you could say we love our Miroku's. Naturally, while at the gun shop we picked up a few other bits and pieces; cleaning kits, soft cases (the guns came with tear-down cases already), a new safe and a bunch of other crapola we probably didn't need.

I did hours and hours of research (read: dispensed hundreds of shells) using U/O's I'd borrowed to try out and couldn't go passed the value for money of a new Miroku.

Anyway, enough jibber jabber. I'm a F&G member, have been for years. I love going out with the family and mates smashing a few clays on the farm and am a reasonable shot off the back of the ute. I even built a 2"x2" receiver hitch mount for the clay thrower so I can let off some steam after work if need be ;)

Cheers,Jamesy

Thanks all for the warm welcome :D

Zilla, the big day was today (after owning it for a few weeks). I took a heap of steel shot 32g 3's that came free with the U/O and choked it appropriately. They make it hard to hit clays, you've gotta be fairly accurate, but when you do hit them there isn't much left of them.

I swapped about 3/4 through the session to 28g 7 1/2's still choked for steel, and naturally managed to hit a higher percentage when I got on to them early.

Hugely happy with the Mk-10, I just need to learn how to shoot a R/H gun with a palm swell, rather than the ambidextrous MK-7000 of my brothers that is sooo much thinner.

I shot just as many with the old man's Mk-11. Just goes to show that better engravings and gold triggers really do sweet FA ;)

Cheers again for the welcome guys,

I look forward to being a part of the forum.

Jamesy.
