They need economical advice, not medical advice. Keep everything open but just use common sense about your movements.

Mate it might not do anything but that does not mean we do nothing. If the 200000 firearms owners in QLD complain it may make a difference. The election is in October and polies only care about keeping their seat.
Apparently the Premier is meeting with the chief medical officer soon so lets see what happens. Hopefully they reopen next week.

An ad from the Shooting Industry Foundation Australia published by Seven West Media on Sunday.

Office Response:
'Grow up': Premier and Commissioner respond to 'disgusting' firearms industry threat

The WA premier and police commissioner have responded in disgust to a threatening advertisement from the national shooting industry in WA’s only Sunday newspaper.

The print advert from the Shooting Industry Foundation Australia addresses Mark McGowan with a threat, one line reading ‘Premier, rein it in before we’re all sorry’.

“Western Australia has done it again with punitive and counterproductive firearms business closures that put Australia at risk,” another line read.

Mr McGowan at his Sunday press conference said it was “disgusting” and that he was not going to be threatened or intimidated by the actions of anyone.

“My responsibility is to the people of Western Australia,” he said.

“Taking out an ad like that and issuing a veiled threat to not just me but my fellow West Australians is completely out of line. It won’t be tolerated.”

Mr McGowan said “this was not the United States” and urged the shooting industry, where a vast majority are doing the right thing, to “rein it in”.

“Don’t be stupid,” he said.

“This is a state of emergency, have some understanding.”

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson reiterated what the Premier said and urged the firing industry to understand that it was a state of emergency and to “grow up”.

All things considered, I agree with their Prem. I'd rather medical , food and other essential life supplies come in over everything else.

Getting back on topic. When this state of emergency is over, our local gun shops are going to need our support. If I have the financial means I am definitely going to buy local as I want to support my own community. The owners and workers of my local store are really top people who have had their world turned upside down by events outside their control. At the end of the day shooting is just a hobby for most of us. For the blokes at my local store it’s their livelihood.

Gun shops closed, churches closed, army on the streets, internal police checkpoints, borders closed, citizens being locked in camps against their will. This really is communism and oppression. People really need to take this wickedness more seriously and see this inversion of reality for what it really is.

Now they want to make it so you can't have more than 10 people in your own home. Who are they to tell us what we can have in our own private residence? My mum is upset that the church is closed and if she has people over for study she will be a criminal? This is religious discrimination. Scripture is very clear about self defence in times of persecution.

Where is the line of persecution drawn though? Is it now or is it when they kick our door down? I hope I am overreacting but as a student of history I don't like my chances.

Extreme measures are actually needed to stop people from getting close to each other during a pandemic as it is abundantly clear that a huge number are too stupid to do it for themselves, unfortunately however, there is a long history of government granting themselves emergency powers which they just keep after the emergency is over, that will certainly happen here too.

With regard to gun shops, I actually agree that the retail aspect for sports and target shooters should be temporarily closed, as should just about every other retail business out there, hair salons, JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, jewelers still open... are you F..ing kidding me?
Primary Producers need access to firearms and ammunition, mail order should remain available for everyone where it can be used and stores maybe limited to appointments only (dealers could show people around as if they were thinking of buying the store or maybe offer a free haircut, then it would apparently be OK).

Whatever the best solution, the current blanket closure is wrong and the police won't be able to handle the workload that has just been passed to them, I wrote to my local MP expressing my concerns and got a brief response of "Agree 100%".

Everyone who cares about this needs to write a brief polite email or other message to their MP, there should even be contact forms on their individual government pages.

Don't leave it to somebody else and even though one email probably wouldn't make a difference, numbers matter.

Its not that gunshops are closed it is that gunshops are closed whislt other things are open that is feeding the panic. either shut it all down and or keep it all open. We all know the government loves an emergancy because it allows them the ability to do what normally they could not.

It is a smart move for people not to go to shooting ranges but for farmers and people who shoot on private land well they are being molested by this. And lets not forget the collectors. People who just enjoy buying firearms for collection purposes.

I wanted to buy a marlin or henry lever 44mag or 45-70 soon. I had not decided. Now who knows what will happen.

While I agree with the closure of retail stores I also believe an alternative for pest controllers and farmers should be made available.

If qld gun stores are being forced to close - are they still allowed to operate on line?
That store that won’t be mentioned - has packaged and sent 75% of one of my orders this afternoon and are still showing open tomorrow ?

Lol my LGS actually does sell takeaway coffee, but the govt got around this by saying any premises operated and owned by a firearms dealer or gunsmith must close. I have heard of general stores in outback areas that did the post, groceries, fuel and hardware bits and bobs having to close because they are also the ammo and firearms dealer, so rural people are left without access to fuel and groceries and the like.

Very true, but taz asked what their response has been, and so far this is all they've come up with.
