Re: Gday All, new to the sport, looking to learn more

G'day Mick.

My advice is start visiting local gunships. Pick up, shoulder and feel as many guns as you can, then buy the lot lol

OK, serious advice, work out what you're going to be hunting, where, and what type of terrain, then pick up as many rifles (or shotguns, yes, ben, shotguns too) and find the one that fits you best.

And welcome to the forums

Hey Mick, if you're looking for cheap guns to start off with, you can always look on sites like these:

http://www.owenguns.com/used-guns/

Or check your local gunstores for other things.
If something doesn't work, apply rule .303!

Cheers guys,
I think deer would be my main aim to hunt, but would also like to take pigs goats and so on. Terrain wise, i dont really know as i dont yet have anywhere to hunt.
Will def have to visit some shops and get a feel for different rifles.
Will also have to get a 22 for something with cheap ammo :-)

"Did you get sick of the other place or get banned like so many others..... :allegedly:"

Mmmm I questioned the quality of some of the shooting glasses they were flogging. They were only manufactured to a very low level of impact resistance. And were clearly substandard. I got a pm you wouldnt believe, then they deleted it after I read it. Unbelievable. So I no longer visit that forum. Like many others I gather.

Welcome Homer. Generally a well run forum here.

Nah Old Bloke, no good at literature but I make up for that by demolishing Donuts! Mmmmmmmmmmmmm Donuts!!!

Nah Gwion, been very quite on that front. Lots of old ideas but a total lack of motivation.......................

Yes Apollo, I was banned from that other forum, for posting a notification about the book "In The Company of Cowards", that had been released by Michael Mori, the US Army lawyer that represented Aussie David Hicks, during his legal trial! I assume this book was not very flattering toward that slimy little political animal, we had as a PM at the time, hence my being banned!
Further to this, rumor has it that the ssaa has been infiltrated by members of a major political party, and thats why they are so ineffective (deliberately), on the political front.
Given this, has anybody ever considered that this very same political party, may have set up a Shooting Forum?

Sorry about leaving you with that BAD Thought, but Good ridden's to that forum, their loss not mine!!!

Doh!
Homer

Banned for mentioning a book???
Couldnt be that other forum, most are illa ell u illiterate
Must be a good book, but WHICH forum do you suspect is a shooters honeypot?

And yes.... its been quite obvious to the slightly switched on human shooter that the SSAA is more than happy with the status quo, hence the lack of waves... their response to the NFA was suspiciously mild, they SHOULD have gone hard, gone all in.

So confirmed than the this forum is the Germany of the shooting sites...Refuge for the refugees :welcome:

G'Day Fella's,

Tom604, to best answer your question, can I please suggest "an adequate supply"!

Genisis9, its another forum, for "Australian Shooting"................................. FYI, think about what I said before about that forum, and then have a think about the real name of it, and if I'm correct about my assumption.
And yes, I was banned for posting a review on a "In the Company of Cowards" by Michael Mori (He may use Dan Mori, as his name on this book)!
Well worth a read but according to that other forum, a review that was not fit for public announcement, on "Their" forum!!!

That's certainly an interesting view you have of who is running that other forum, Homer, but bugger me if it doesn't make sense, I deleted my account there for my own reasons and when I think about the posts that were either edited or deleted, members who were banned or left, you may have hit the nail on the head ;)

22rimfire is the best start, good first firearm to learn the handling and safety considerations..... also you can shoot all day for a few bucks! Also a shotty, to start teaching your shoulder :D fodder for which is also relatively cheap.

New member intro

Post by southeast varmiter » 27 Oct 2015, 5:47 pm

Hi all Justin here, new shooter to Victoria. Originally from SA with lots of experience back post 96 and 03. Just got my new toys and looking to meet likeminded folk in the sports shooting and hunting community.
Just picked up a savage axis 223 and ruger gunsite to add to the new armoury.
Being from SE I can see the pain of not having a centre fire range like eagle park, but the state forests are only around the corner.
This forum has already helped me with lots of info!
Glad to have found it

What does SE mean? South East?

I used to think SA meant everybody was from South Africa but I am pretty sure it means South Australia now :)

Got the 223 rem, shoots like a laser up to 350 getting just within moa with Outback 69gr and bipod. Need to replace the package optic, the Bushnell Sharpshooter is now a legacy unit. Action is great but will take a few shoots to run in. They saved all the money with a real budget stock but it does the job.

Ex ARA 8-) so got to play with more toys then.
Mostly handgun shooting and on farms doing pest control (non-professional)
In SA you can't hunt on public land or forests - unfortunate
