I did it, I left Australia for NZ. Not a humble brag

Post by SteamedHam » 14 Nov 2018, 3:36 pm

We've all read comments on forums from Aussie gun owners lamenting that Kiwis can access semi-autos and all sorts of goodies. In the last year I had a pretty rough time with work, being made redundant etc. When I saw a job advertised in NZ, I jumped at the chance.

Getting the firearms license was a bit of a pain, needing personal referees that I simply didn't have for a while (left the fiance in OZ for the first 9 months) and having to have storage inspected before I got the license, but I got there.

Now for the brag. First thing I stupidly bought was an air pistol. 8-shot .177. Can't penetrate a 2L bottle of L&P. No license required.

The Family (I have a Tikka .300 winmag not in pic, coz you've seen those before)
"suppressed" .177 Browning air-rifle, Ruger 10/22, Norinco SKS, actual-proper-suppressed single shot .410, and a VZ.58

It's pretty sweet here (for now)

It's not bad in the South Island, there is a bit of Department of Conservation land where you can hunt, but they have stupid rules regarding .22s and shotties. You're not allowed to use them unless it's a specified small game hunting area (which there's only two near me) So I need to get off my arse and letter drop some farmers to really use the .22 outside of a range

I managed a dairy farm in NZ from 2002 - 2005. Best hunting and fishing time of my life. I often think of returning. Gun ownership is not treated with a foaming hysterical leftist bent as it is here. Well, not back then.

I always enjoy going to New Zealand. Great weather, no snakes, lots of different scenery to look at and a rural vibe. They don't seem to have the same anti gun hysteria as they do in Australia.

So now that you officially own some oz outlawed (ie fun) firearms - you do realise you will not be allowed back into AU?
What’s that ?? Of course you will be??
Really? Not after I finish talking you won’t be...2 ppl can play your little bloody game...

So jealous. Hate idiotic govt laws.
Sounds like the prices are pretty reasonable there as well.

If you want to see what their prices are like, have a sniff around this site.

A lot of the f/a's will have sound moderators on them, and if you search further within that site I'm sure you'll see plenty more to whet your appetite.

Considering he's now going to have to hand over that 10/22 and SKS...
Not sure if they changed any of the rules regarding suppressors, but considering NZ are now looking at Aus for firearm rules, good chance they are going to restrict those further too. Probably have to hand in that 8 shot air pistol too.
It'll shoot the fleas off a dog's back at five hundred yards, Tannen, and it's pointed straight at your head!

You bad man :problem:

Everyone seems to think that the SKS' and 10/22's of NZ are exempt. But saying that, the new laws haven't really being made 100% official. COLFO are telling us to not hand anything in just yet, until buy-back details are confirmed.

I can guarantee my VZ58 is going to be taken. (it's so scary)

One of the more disappointing things to happen out of this ****** is the FUDDs all coming out of the woodwork. Major chain shop Hunting and Fishing, the Deerstalkers association and Field and Game among others have come out in favour of the ban, all using the same tired line "Why do you need it" while a chorus of Aussies telling them that this is just the beginning of the end.

Fudds. Fudds ruin everything.

I think they are taking aim at all semi auto centerfire firearms.

FUDDS are gonna FUDD. A lot of selfish people are always going to be like I got mah Ruger 10/22 and no one else needs nothin' else, so take it.

The way I see, if there is any positive out of such events is that you know who your true friends are and who the sell outs, bums, halfwits and losers are.

I wouldn't give a half penny to Hunting and Fishing ever again.

All I can say is do all you can to influence opinion in a positive way even though not a citizen. I have tried to do the same.
