Bucket list shootin irons...

Post by Noisydad » 27 Dec 2018, 9:47 am

We probably all have a bucket list of shootin irons that will “complete” our collection/ make us happy/fullfill a life dream/need in our lives. What’s in yours? Here’s mine...
-Remington revolving carbine .44 (C&B)
-Spencer carbine .56-50 or .45 Colt
-Smith carbine .52 (look up on YT)
- Springfield trapdoor .45-70
- Brown Bess musket .75
-Whitworth hex bore ML .45

(...drifts off into my happy place)
Edit... Forgot these two...
Enfield Snider .577
Gallager carbine .50

Once you go black...modern guns just don’t do it for you any more.
Modern guns pretty much all look the same, work the same, are accurate without much fun input and get boring quickly. Anyone can hit a 600 yard gong with a scope fitted .308 all day.
Now try it with a 147 year old .50-70 rolling block with barrel sights and a soft cast bullet that’s only doing 1050fps and home made bullet lube. The fun factor and challenge goes through the roof!

I'd like a 20g/.62 cal Indian trade musket.
A howdah pistol in the above calibre.
A 12 bore paradox gun.
FN P90.

Nope, when I started out collecting I chose a subject I knew I could never, ever fulfill no matter the time or money thrown at it. That way there would always be something to chase, to hunt down and haggle over, or to drool at the auctions knowing I didn't have the dosh to buy it. Highly approve of your list, Noisydad, some classics there. I already have one, and have at least handled the others as well as firing a Pietta repro of the Smith. A friend has offered me a repro Gallagher carbine I'm seriously thinking of snaffling though! Cheers.

I'm looking for an M94 Swede Carbine now.
I'd like to get a Sharps Carbine, or something similar, like the Spencer perhaps.
I still need a No.1 Mk3 Rifle, and a No.5 Mk1 Carbine.
And a Type 99 Arisaka.
A Gewehr 88.
A Ruger American in .300WinMag.
A pair of Rossi Carbines in .357 and .44Mag.
An M44 Finn would be neat.
I sort of feel like I need to get a K11 or K31 just because, but they really don't appeal to me.
I need another shotgun to fit a carry bag I was given.
I would love a Boer War Lee-Metford Rifle.
And a Martini Henry.

And if I get back into handguns:
Browning HiPower.
'08 Luger.
P38.
1911.
Lahti.
Webley and Enfield revolvers.
The wartime Colt and S&W revolvers.
Colt SAA.

This wont come as a surprise...
Anzio 20mm takedown rifle has to be No.1 on my list based on living in Australia.
If I was living in the US then I want the GAU-8 30mm canon as mounted in the A10 Warthog
Any other firearm that I think looks cool, has an interesting history or just plain obscure.

Not yet but I'm working on it, I've got confirmation that I can register a Anzio 20/50 in NSW but Border Force have made it nigh on impossible to import. I'm working on the approach of importing an action, unchambered barrel blank and reamers to build one locally. The 20mm is difficult but not impossible as we are permitted to own "Canons" up to 40mm bore size and technically the 20mm Vulcan is classified as a canon :)

I’d like to witness, very closely - a 105 Howitzer being fired. My grandfather told me stories about all manner of artillery - but the 105 was a favourite.
I’m looking forward to shooting a friends 45/70 with full house loads.
I’d love to also shoot a 50 BMG and a 338 lapua - properly...
For giggles - line me up a 700 nitro and then wait around for 2 hours whilst I nervously giggle like a kid before pulling the trigger with my eyes closed...
If we are going all out ? - put me on deck of the Missouri or similar when the triples are being fired :-)

I’ve never owned a lever action so I’d like to start with an early jm marlin 39a and the marlin 57m.
Anything fieldman / naughton would interest me particularly their thumbhole stocked rifles and lever actions.
I’d also part with money for a nice Brno Fox 222 or 22 hornet and a Brno model 5

Only three.
A genuine WW1 M1911A1
A genuine WW1 P08 Luger
The original .55 Boys Rifle (and a lifetime supply of free ammo and replacement barrels) so I could yell "Fvck Yeah!!!" every time I fired it until the recoil finally killed me where I lay, spent and satiated.

I have had a few lever actions over the years, marlin 45/70, 44mag, 30/30, as well as Winchester’s, I also have a Bruno fox in 222, it is a nice gun,

2 of my bucket list firearms got a step closer today with the approval of 2 H3 >1946 PTA's. These 2 won't be for shooting, more for fondling and stroking lovingly :) First one is a 8 3/8" 500 S&W Magnum revolver and the other a 50AE Desert Eagle.
