.22LR vs coins?

Post by stevy » 02 Feb 2014, 9:53 am

Hi guys,

Probably a stupid question but I'll ask anyway...

I guess a .22LR will go through a thick coin like a 50c piece?

The missus is asking for a little shooting trinket for a necklace or something and that seems like an idea :D

Yes/No?

It will, a penny looks better as I've done it for my boys & defacing Australian currency is illegal! Not a being a nark just letting you know.

Bumps up your cost per shot a bit too :-)
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

I'd be keen to see a coin that has been shot. I wouldn't have thought a standard velocity .22 would make a hole in say a 50c piece.

All I would say is that a hole shot into a coin would leave it pretty ragged and sharp, may not be something you'd want against your skin

It did leave a little bit of edge on the penny, I just used a very thin file. My kids are 6 & 8 so there hard to please. They liked the golden penny instead of the silver, so pop had to hand over a couple from his collection.

If your wife wants a coin with a hole shot through it, she needs to be able to say " he shot this at 100 yards" ;) .... don't think the .22 is going to cut it.

I think a clean hole at 100 yards might be asking a little too much.

At 50ish though I think a .22 would go through them all.

The edges might need a bit of a clean up like Chronos suggested is all.
What is this "too many rifles" you speak of?
