When I was working as a guide at one of the natureparks at kuranda I would often get asked to help the wildlife handlers with different shows ( croc feeding walkin dingoes around feeding snakes and lizards etc etc) and the only time I ever really got nervous was helping with the koala photos. .. they're not shy at latching onto a face or or arm with their teeth or digging their claws into an arm if they get upset and they f@#kin stink!!!

I'm working with an Englishman at the moment, he's fresh off the boat. :welcome:

We got to talking about roo shooting and he popped the question "what do kangaroos eat?"
I went on to explain that "since the introduction of the rabbit into Australia roos have moved away from their traditional diet and now mainly eat rabbits"

You should've seen his face!

These foreigners have no idea about Australian native animals and just how dangerous they are, he actually thought kangaroos were herbivores.

So if this thread evolves into stories about fooling ignorant tourists then two of my favourites are....
My cousin convinced a chick that a stubble paddock was a spaghetti farm and I convinced a bloke that steel wool comes from a specially bred species of sheep called hydraulic rams.

HAs anyone seen the show American Chopper? With Paul senior and Paul junior?
If so, there is an episode where russel Crowe invites them to Sydney and he tells them about drop bears and for the rest of the show, the two main characters are walking around looking up at trees and refusing to walk under a anything with a leaf canopy...he gave them the big spiel and they believed every word,

Unfortunately, when the yanks brought out Kaft and vegemite, they really thought it was for eating, and was a big joke at the time when they tried changing the recipe to make it edible. But then they sold it back, and the new owners are still using the yank recipe, so it is pretty much useless for anything, especially eating or as a dropbear repelent. Of its prior one thousand and one uses there is only one that it might still be good at, and I'd still be a bit dubious in using it as a moly grease substitute these days.

I’ve seen a conspiratorial website that advises that the Australian Govt is trying is hardest to not allow any credence to be given to the dropbear rumour - as the tourism hitcwkuld cripple the company. It went into a LOT of detail as to the lengths being taken...and advising over sea travellers to remain aware, after all - we have crocs, white pointers and box jelly in the oceans, poisonous snakes and spiders on land - the last thing the govt want known is a farkin big hairy bear jumping out of trees biting ppl on the head - it was a fantastic read but the comments were hilarious...questions from travellers : I don’t wan to come anymore, and some were going to write in to govt and complain about their misleading the public etc - very funny stuff.
