Up to now, when I’m in my “studio” making stuff and flinging sparks around, I’ve fumbled along holding jobs in the vise or clamping bits to lumps of steel held in the vise and working on my knees on the floor and I’m over it - BIG time!
I have quite a few projects in the queue so I built a welding bench. It’s 1000 x 900 and mounted on castors so I can move it around the shed easily. The castors are retractable when it’s in position.
The deck size was determined by steel I had on hand. Each deck piece can be tilted a little or lowered to accommodate protrusions.
The angle irons for clamping parts to the bench can bolt on anywhere and at angles. The bolts for these have handles so they don’t need spanners. The clamp tower will also bolt on anywhere and the arms are telescopic. It doesn’t need to apply any great clamping force, rather, it’s just got to hold parts in position.
All up it weighs 130kg.
