My old man has one mate. Never had an issue with them. From what I hear they are pretty good.
I went for the Honda inverter 2kva myself.

Just an after thought. How do you plan to plug it into the house? I have a feeling it isnt just a matter of plugging into an 10amp out let.

I have a Honda 2 k inverter that will probably live longer than me. But when people talk reliable gen sets they are usually talking Honda or Yamaha

Change the engine oil, don't rely on the dealer/retailer having replace the transit oil. Change the oil, again, after the first five hours and check for any metal flexs in the oil by smearing some of the oil on a piece of glass and shining a light at the oil. If there are flexs in the oil, then do another oil change after the next five hours of opereation.

Yep, Yamaha and Honda

I don't think there is a rating that goes low enough for Briggs & Struggling,, or any of the Chinee ones.

We used to do lots of camping and fishing on the beaches,, and for those regulars,,,,, you wouldn't find anything other than Yamaha & Honda.

Yeah, even brand name gear suffers QC issues sometimes (it's nearly all made in China nowdays, anyway). I usually put a teaspoon or so of the used oil in a small glass jar, turn it on its side and roll it around in my hand to get a thin coating on the sides of the jar whilst shining a touch at it. Even really small flexs show up this way.

Have been running a China 8KVA "silent" diesel genny, 6hrs a day, 5 days a week for almost 8 years now, and at near max capacity. It run 125.5 hrs straight, powering three homes after cyclone Marcia. First thing I did when I got it, was change the oil, and then change it every 5 hours till I couldn't see any metal flex in the oil. Most of that metal is from not cleaning the pieces properly after machining. Even brand name can suffer from this.
