Sherriff badge

Post by Blr243 » 24 Jan 2020, 1:26 pm

Just heard a chopper , flying low towards my house / hunting shack and slow as if it were going to land in the yard Then it carried on across the paddock and I realised it was inspecting the power lines for damage ( so obviously something to do with the no power complaint we submitted ). I noticed SHERRIF painted on the side .....is that anything to do with police ?. I’m aware that sometimes govt deptartments will sometimes hire equipment from each other. Or is it a name for a type or model of helicopter? Do we even use the name Sherriff in Australia or is it strictly a yank thing ?

G'day Blr243,
The Sheriffs Office is a division of the Courts responsible for the enforcement of fines, with the power to seize persons or property in lieu of unpaid fines. It was first established in Australia in 1824, and has been a part of British Justice since the 11th Century (recall The Sheriff of Nottingham). What you saw may have been someone along the lines of Sherriff Electrical Contractors, but I didn't think they were in Qld only Victoria and only did wholesale and retail? Needed a to take a photo of them to see who it was,Cheers.
