And just like that you holden me no more

Yep after a couple years, GM has decided that they don't want to build RHD vehicles anymore. First they tried to convey Australia to LHD, but as that failed, they threw a hissy fit and decided to retire the Holden brand from AU and NZ and stop making right hand drive vehicles

It's a tragic sad day. Can't even explain my disappointment, however once local manufacturing shut down there wasn't much point anymore.

Who knows, hopefully someone down the road can revive the plate with local manufacturing. General Motors is a terribly run company.

And the reason is, principally in the US as in Australia, not enough corporate socialism.
What is corporate socialism?
Privatise the profits but socialise the losses.
When the inefficient, incapable and/or ineffective stop getting a 'leg up' they collapse.
Observe with an unemotional and unbiased eye and you will see it everywhere in our society.

I think this was part of their original plan, they just kept it quiet.

It all comes down to capitalist greed

I don't see what the big deal is. People forget that Holden is only about 1% of GM sales. It is literally nothing to the CEOs in Detroit. Falcon and Commodore both died years ago when they cut Australian production. All of Holdens current product is just rebadged garbage. Ford at least let the Falcon name die off whilst Holden thought they could just import a FWD and slap a Commodore name on it and people would buy it? No chance. People are not that stupid. There has been nothing Australian about Ford or Holden for the last couple of years. GM in Australia will just be Chev. Whether they still keep the name “HSV” to sell those Chevs still remains to be seen.

The Australian made Commodore or Falcon was the best deal of any car on the market. For only 40k RRP(nobody ever pays the RRP) you could buy a large V8 or inline 6Turbo RWD sedan. Enormous amounts of aftermarket support and easy to make good power, the Falcadore was the icon. Ford at least has the Mustang and F150 name but Holden? Without Commodore Holden is nothing.

Funny how the government bought in the luxury car tax to help local production but have not removed it seeing as we have had no local production since 2017!!!!!!!!

Its a sad day - Ive got my name down for one of the new Corvettes, but lets see what happend there.
Word is that GM will open a performance side GMSV..
Ive got a couple of holdens put away, but Im not sure if they will really appreciate in the medium term. Maybe ride a small wave soon and quite them..

HSV will just become GMSV. Ryan Walkinshaw already has a nice production line going converting Chevy Silverados, Camaros and Dodge Rams. That business is not going away anytime soon and if anything might increase. Not sure what will happen with the Corvette though.

Sad time. Doesn't matter if you loved them or loathed them. A definitive part of Australian motoring, family life, culture, rivalry etc will be no more.

Media keeps telling us our wages are too low.

We are literally pricing ourselves out of the labour market.

Agreed FNQ. If you want to see cause and effect look at the current wages scandals, if big companies like Coles can't get the pay packets right i think our wages and conditions are too complex. Even kaufland have left Australia before even opening a single store, obviously wages had atleast a small part to play.

Butt what i find funny is how the labor party and unions are putting up meme saddling how hockey told Holden to leave and now they are leaving.
