Amusing, but,,,, if it makes you feel protected;

Post by Die Judicii » 08 Mar 2020, 3:15 pm

I don't know if any members put any thought into this practice but,,,

I find it amusing but at the same time ludicrous,,
When I see in real life, as well as on the news, people scurrying about and wearing the disposable face masks in an attempt to either save themselves
from catching or spreading the flu or common cold.

I speak of course of these ailments that are all derived from "virus/s"

It's obvious that these people don't realize just how small a virus is.

A very very rough size analogy would be to compare an average farm fence with mosquitos,,,, and expect the fence to act as a barrier to them.
As easily as you can breathe through these disposable masks,, the virus/s flow through even easier.

You certainly don't see disposable masks used in the isolation wards where the staff are dealing with virus threats.

But like I said,,,,,, if it makes you feel protected and safe, then by all means go for it.

It aint rocket science,,,,,,,, just common sense and basic knowledge.
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!
I've come to realize that,,,,, the two most loving, loyal, and trustworthy females in my entire life were both canines.

I have noticed it is asians who wear those masks and they have been doing it for years. The Viet bloke at my work says it is because over there they have poor air quality and also when they are sick they don't want to spread diseases to others whilst in public.

You see people walking around Brisbane city with their masks on. They can wear a mask covering their face but I can't wear a balaclava into a bank? How rude.....

Does anyone know where to get a World War 2 style gas mask? That'd be the go .........

Correct. They do not work in the reverse. They simply reduce the amount of droplets sprayed around if you sneeze or cough.

They stop particles in air like dust and or gas fumes.

The only relevance is that the virus is carried in spit particles that people emit anytime they speak or cough etc.

Mate i thought i had seen it all, on eBay today i saw someone selling a single mask for $19.99 plus $9.99 postage....rotfl

Atleast in the US, eBay has decided to ban all ads of n95 and n100 masks...if only eBay Australia do that

With single rolls of toilet paper selling for $200 on FB market places, $19.99 sounds cheap if you want something to wipe ya arse with.

My wife is an emergency dept specialist doctor, and i can tell you that if you think the masks they use in the hospitals DAILYwhen faced with anyone suspected of a virus do nothing, you are mistaken.
They are simple P2 masks made for this, but they use the duckbill type that stand off your nose and mouth, so any particles sucked onto the exterior surface do not contact your mucous membranes, that's the idea anyway.

ANY mask is better than no mask, even a simple P1 dust mask you might use for grinding. But the virus is stopped by any P2 or better.

The Necrosis that eats out your lung tissue from Coronavirus, is best not picked up. Doesn't help you breathe afterwards.

The other thing that masks do is serve as reminder - do not put your fingers into your mouth without washing, etc etc - my wife bites the crap out of her fingernails and works in a public place, I told her to tie a piece of sting around her finger...same concept.

Also stops you spraying around the germs that you exhale, or when you sneeze and snot in a doc's surgery when you go down there cos you feel ill. Or at work, or the shops. It's surprising how many people are unaware of what they expose others to.

Look at Italy now, the joints closed.

In a surgery, people generally call up to book a spot, so receptionists/nurse on duty is ready for them and they are forced to wear a mask to protect everyone else there, if they do not, they are asked to leave.
In an ED, people don't book, they drag themselves in and everybody has to be on their toes to get them in a mask asap.

What's that saying? The Chinese word for crisis is the same as opportunity or similar.

I think we're looking at this all wrong. The rest of the world is going bonka's about self isolating and getting away from this virus.

You know - grabbing the camping gear and gun, and going bush for a few weeks is currently considered a community service. I for one are thinking of doing the community a good service during this time. ;-)

Ok people, we are starting the random grocery item generator. It will spit out a new name every day and that item will no longer be available on supermarket shelves due to panic buying.

People are going crazy, it's requested that all shooters stock up on reloading supplies and ammo because the cronazombies are conning to steal your toilet paper.

Just happened to listen to Joe Rogan who had on Michael Osterholm who's an internationally recognized expert in infectious disease epidemiology and the director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy. He says the n95 masks are effective.

Well any mask is more efficient than no mask, especially if one is infected, whilst it might not stop droplets/Airborne matter escaping it severely limits it's velocity and limits the vectors it can take... In other words it localises the infectious material vs no mask that lets it splash about unabated

Remember the lads early on in ww1 had to urinate on socks and other bits of fabric and wrap it around their face to help protect themselves from the gas before they had masks. It actually does work a bit.

Dad was telling me when he was in the army in Croatia they were not allowed beards because it stops the gas mask from sealing. I think thats one of the reasons its a common grooming standard in armies.

Correct. Any leak around the face to mask seal reduces the effectiveness of the mask.

Caller on talkback radio yesterday reckoned he could not buy a freezer, a brief search of a couple of retailer sites indicate that he may be correct.

Love living on the farm, paddock is full of food, we already have bulk supplies, we already have bulk ammo and f-a, we already have fuel, we already have water, we already have basically everything city plebs don't. And if we run out of s**t paper, plenty of crossbred wool and we can always designate a dam for ass washing haha

This is the very reason Mr and Mrs China and all of their offspring are trying ( ? succeeded ) to buy Australia..

Yeah I'm 100% behind banning foreign ownership of land and single dwellings on land, if we can only buy a condo in their country that's all they should be allowed to own here

Mate do you actually realise even Chinese cannot buy a house or land in China, at the most its a 100 year lease.

Using same logic or govt will need to stop us buying and owning land

I don't usually unblock your comments, but if that's your interpretation of my comment then it's a poor one at best, if anything by that logic they should have even less license to own anything here, it's weak policy inviting it in, rather see land/businesses nationalised than foreign ownership continued. Lease fine, run business fine, own assets like land and infrastructure, nope.

In Asia it is common to have a garbage bin full of water next to the dunny. In it, it has a small plastic saucepan that you use as a scoop to get water out of the bin to pour on you bum to give it a clean. It works well just wash your hands. Nearly all the toilets over there can not handle TP so it is used to dry your bum then put in a bin.

The Alternative this used to be in the Mother in Laws house.

I cannot wrap me head around the toilet paper thing either, if you have to get in the shower afterwards, it's only a bit of poo. With the panic buying here going on there is a lack of food on the shelf already, but if it gets to it, the humble kangaroo is going to be on the menu for me as well as the venison in my freezer
