BARGAINS Thread

Post by Oldbloke » 19 Aug 2020, 2:33 pm

Thought I'd start this with the idea of letting members know when there are any camping, 4x4, hunting or shooting related bargains/specials available for all the tight arses out there.

I'll start. Aldi have swags coming up. Ive have one of these for about 18 months and its great. Paid $99 At the time. Probably had about a dozen sleeps in it so far.

Hey all,

I ran out of G96. Went to buy some more and the $37 price tag had me stumped.

G96 is CLP. Cleaner Lubricant & Protectant.

Hoppes #9 and Sweets do all of the cleaning I need, so I looked for INOX at Bunnings. Couldn't find it but I did discover this....

It is doing the Lubricant & Protectant job well and for $3 I am thinking it is a clear winner! Go get some before I go back and buy them out!

Jarhead

I found that product too at Bunnings when I had to free u something that seized up . I specifically chose it instead of just basic wd or crc. And I thought it wad cost me ten Bucks because it’s a big can. I got a big shooock when they said 3 dollars. I think it’s actually a mistake

Blr243,

I thought there must be something wrong with it and tested it out on the .22 (cheapest gun). It didn't take the blueing off- it cleans well and dries leaving a perfect thin layer of oil. I am sold! If the 22 does not turn into a slag of rust overnight I am buying every can they have tomorrow morning.

Jarhead

l would be careful of clp's
as l've had problems in the past with one that l thought was amazing at first but gummed up my action after 12 months of use and was not easy to remove
the one l used was a plant based one apparently used by the US military ect... that action still has traces of it 5 years later
just be careful :unknown:

Kiwi's love it, smells sexy. Lol.

I like it too.
Good for preventing rust and resists rain. A natural smell too. Leave a good film of lanolin and does not harm wood. Pretty popular. Safe to use.

The 22 is looking better than ever- there is a protective film on the barrel which is repelling water but hard enough not to hold sand or dust.

I am sold on this stuff. Off to Bunnings....

Re: BARGAINS Thread

I used PML to clean my skeet gun- I kept it away from the wood parts- not because I think it will do it damage but because I want to test some other timber.

The residue that gets caught inside the chokes at the end of the barrel always give me trouble. It is a combination of plastic, carbon and lead. I spend half of my time cleaning the gun on those two chokes. I usually get it hot enough with a bore brush in a drill to melt the plastic and then it smears everywhere!

Not anymore! 2 squirts of PML and it was gone! It just wiped away. Love it!

I also cleaned the barrels inside and out. I got worried at first because they never before looked like they did after wiping them down. I thought I had done some damage but then I realised that they had never been this clean before! So that is what blueing with no oil or residue looks like!

I rekon its a brilliant model. Havent seen their books, but ive seen there stores go up & they thrive.

Im surprised i still see so many people buying staples in supermarkets. I walk past some people in coles with some basic stuff in their trolley & think there's gotta be a good few bob to be saved there if they went to Aldi.
But it can get crowded in there sometimes--a friend of mine refuses to go in there & calls it COVID Central
(Except to buy her organic coconut fat/oil & healthy cereal mixes--less than half the price of a brand names in the big supermarkets)

Thats the big difference you have to re try test everything over again the brand names you have come to trust over the years are not available there.
Buying at Aldi is a better proposition than buying home brands at the big stores though some of those can be terrible.

Oldbloke,

I will understand if you moderate this one out :silent: (I couldn't help myself) :unknown: .....
