I too have started to use cloth to avoid scratching a new item. Towels in the safe are definitely an indicator that things are getting out of hand ....I bought a new safe and attached it to my old one ....temporary solution

One way or another there is always room for one more. I think it was Rudyard Kipling who said " A man can never have too much red wine, too many good books or too much ammunition" I would like to add " or too many guns"

Geez OB, I reckon you posted this thinking “look at me...I’m keewl as “ having a safe bursting at seems but then no1 and others blow you outta the water lol. Reckon it’s time for some crowd funding a new safe for No1 - that’s incredible. Funny to see a thief open that safe - he’d collapse laughing lol

Funny thing about gun owners, we'll spend thousands of dollars on guns and then "sardine can" them into our existing safes. I was doing the same thing, then thought "bugger it" and bought a Lockaway 12 gun safe so I could spread things out a bit and avoid safe damage to my guns. Gun safe number 6 but now I can actually find what I'm looking for and they're not all banging up against one another. $600 well spent I reckon.
The pen may be mightier than the sword, but personally I prefer the .30/30 Winchester.

Wrong. I know someone with about 50. I have all I need to do a bit of hunting. And simply put I don't have a need to big note myself. Like some.

It was about how crammed they are. How do people maximise the space. And perhaps a bit of fun.

But as usual you want to twist into something else.

I don't have photos handy, but I currently have 40 rifles crammed into two 20-rifle safes. Some are broken down and fit into the lock boxes in the top. Others have the scopes dismounted or are broken down. The ones that really mess it up are the very long milsurps as they only fit in at an angle diagonally. Firearms I'm using regularly reside in the two smaller safes for ease of access.

Last week I had my first scare when I found the door was jammed shut! I had jammed the Condor into one of the big safes to save breaking it down, it has grown several inches over the past weeks due to extended chokes and butt pads and won't fit in the smaller safes even diagonally. Unfortunately it somehow moved as I closed the door and managed to twist itself under the cleaning rod hanger on the door. I only had a narrow gap for access but couldn't maneuver whatever was jammed with a length of wire, so I took a deep breath and heaved on the door. Thankfully it popped open! It just scraped some paint off the door onto the barrel but no scratches to the gun! I won't be doing that again :-)

I got those gun socks from ebay pretty good and cheap.... gone and taken scopes off a couple of guns. Next I am thinking getting some go/nogo guages and a barrel wrench. only issue there is i can see myself wanting to get some reamers and cheap barrels from Queensland.

All things we do because we are just too cheap to buy another safe or keep the awkward conversation with the wife from happening.

Problem with socks is you need to remove the scope.

Got to have somewhere to bolt in a new safe.

I have all I need now plus 1 I'm keeping for my grandson. But if a bargain was offered?

l dont like to advertise how many firearms l own although l do post up photos of specific firearms to do with what is being spoken about at that time
IMHO showing photos of safes packed with firearms is candy for the anti's whom l suspect do troll this forum, you know the guys l mean ;)
but anyway, there has been talk amongst posts in this thread about the problems with gun socks
let me tell you most would not have a clue what the real problems with gun socks are and think they are an innovative idea
this is the photo of a 6 month old bore of a 308 rifle left in a gun sock that was oiled and looking down the bore with the naked eye looked shiny and new

Image

and his 223 also left in a gun sock also looking shiny and new with the naked eye

Image

the owner is in stage 3 ISO so can get out and use his firearms, l wanted to have a look at the bores with the bore scope being factory rifles
he said he had cleaned both and oiled the bores after cleaning before putting them away couple of months prior,
the outside of the firearms had no problems but were not oiled they had coachaline applied
the guys gun safe is inside the house where he lives and is not in a moist or humid area
its up to you how you look after your firearms but l would not use a gun sock or towel ect... when storing a firearm and l was not surprised by the rust inside the bores, what is under the barrel and trigger area like :unknown:
each to there own l suppose
