I just started reading Death Traps yesterday. Sounds OK so far

Been getting into a lot of war stuff lately.
Beyond band of brothers - Richard Winters
Pegasus Bridge - Stephen Ambrose
We die alone - David Howarth (dragged on a bit)
Dispatches- Michael Herr

And a few more that I can't remember the names of. Lol

I've read more books this year than in all my life. Thanks to lockdown.
I loved Sven Lindquist's Exterminate all the brutes, (HBO have just done a 4 part doco that is pretty confronting) along with the history of bombing and The dead do not die.

What are your faves from your list mate?

I really can't pick a favorite as they vary enormously :-)
My favorites are the fighter pilot and crew memoirs published during and soon after the conflict.
Names I can see on one shelf from where I'm sitting are Johnnie Johnstone, Pierre Closterman, Geoffrey Wellum, Peter Stanforth, Gunther Bloemertz, Eric Sommer, Norman Hanson,, Duncan Grinell-Milne, Arthur Lee Gould, Desmond Scott, Denis Barnham, Robert L Scott, Jack Henry Hilton, Donald McDonald, John Comer, Hans Rudel, Adolf Galland, Paul Richey and more, as well as compilations of combat pilot anecdotes.

I played board wargames for many years, Advanced Squadleader primarily, so have read extensively about ground combat all my life. I used to subscribe to several book clubs for years. You get a box of books in the mail every month, pay for the ones you like, send back the ones you don't want - I didn't send many back :-)

In fiction, books and movies, I enjoy the way a story is written, seeing how the author draws the pictures in my mind. So I am able to read some stuff that doesn't necessarily have entertaining story lines or characters. Frank Tayell's zombie story I'm reading currently is not something I would generally entertain, but I'm quite enjoying the introspective view of one man alone in London trying to escape a plague of zombies - without getting bogged down in the ludicrous premise :-) He has a second series set in Australia that I think I'll have to have a look at as well.
