Just finished Watching Gallipoli

Post by Robin » 05 May 2021, 2:05 pm

Just finished watching Gallipoli on Netflix and I think its a well produced show, no Hollywood bs, while watching it, it made me think of how bad things would have been during that time, and really reinforced what Anzac Day means to me, this is the type of show that should be shown in every school in Australia so the next generation can see what life was like, I liked Pearl Harbor also but I found it had too much Hollywood bs and took away from what happened.

I'm part way through it. Please don't spoil the ending for me :) I kept thinking the General was Saruman from Lord of the rings movies. What made that harder to figure out was that Christopher Lee was also the name of the guy who adapted the Gallipoli book for screen. Turns out the actor did play Saruman in the hobbit movie after Christopher Lee died, New Zealander

The recent Pearl Harbor didn't impress me with its Hollywood hype. Why do you have to take a historical story and fill it with rubbish to add to the story, the story is more than full enough as it is. I can't remember Tora Tora Tora well, but from memory it is much more correct

I like movies that are as close to the story as they can get without adding crap that shouldn't be there, We Were Soldiers was another good one, altho they dramatised it more with music rather then what was happening. American sniper was pretty good but that might just be me liking Clint Eastwood movies.

Kokoda (2006) is by far the worst movie I have ever seen .....production, directing, acting. All dreadful Pitiful....I think it was disrespectful to Australian soldiers purely because the film used the name KOKODA ....hoping the name would attract enough interest . A dreadful , embarrassing production. I don’t know how anyone could put their name on it

For whatever good Churchill's qualities were, he certainly was a terrible strategist and even in WW2 he proposed a lot of stupid stuff.

I don’t usually watch anything that dose’nt have zombies, boobs or dragons in it.
But i’ll give Gallipoli a look at your recommendation.
I do hope old mate and his donkey get a mention. I do like donkeys.

Are we talking about the 2015 one? Or is there a newer one?

I thought the 2015 one was quite good.

Funny cleger but I was going to mention 1915, Great series and it was filmed in the town I grew up in ( Grenfell) and and the surrounding area. Had a few mates in the film, more like extra's thou one did get a line LOL. Was pretty funny when they poured dirt on the main street to film to set the scene

I just rewatched the Gallipoli mini series last week. It makes want to take up service rifle matches again.
They reckon Gallipoli was a Sunday picnic compared to Pozieres and Fromelle.
