Shooting stories by non-shooters...

Post by Spooner » 08 Apr 2014, 3:39 pm

As you know, the way the internet works is:

Watch something on YouTube > Instantly become worlds foremost expert on the subject > Tell everyone stories showing what a pro you are.

Anyway, I was at a mates place for drinks last night, met a few new people and the normal gig. Some how the topic shooting came up and it lead to "Ow, there is this video of a guy doing blah blah blah" and it went through this half a dozen times.

I had to sit there biting my tongue and laughing a bit on the inside while this guy went through his list of amazing shooting stories, all of which had to be complete nonsense...

To give you an idea of the quality of the stories, the last one for the night was about some guy dual wielding two .50 cal rifles freehand, not using the scopes and hitting bulleyes at 500m with both at the same time

Sounds legit, right?

Sat through what I could before highlighting all the bull crap and putting and end to the guys roll. Took the jam out of his donut I can tell you, to be pulled up in front of everyone. Safe to say I didn't make a new friend

Anyway... Just funny to hear people drivel on with stories about s**t they clearly know nothing about... I'll never understand it...

Can't say that I'm an expert on much but at least I've learnt to shut up if I don't know what I'm talking about

Rant over.

Idiots... Watching YouTube.

They should watch Hollywood movies. That's where all the accurate information is

I think I'll have to take up archery.

Judging by Hawkeye or whatever the guys name in The Avengers is, a bow is 1,000x more capable than a rifle.

They're worried about people shooting down planes with 50 cals.

Should be worried about guys with explosive arrows apparently...

If was the rifles fault though right?

Sight was off, something was loose... Anything but his fault.

All these self-proclaimed pro shooters always have such bad luck with that

They shoot their 0.1 MOA when no one is around. All goes to pot on the day there are witnesses though :D

There is a guy at my range who I've heard a few times flapping on about how he does 1,500 shooting with iron sights somewhere in the NT, and says anyone who can't hit their bulleye's is just making excuses.

Yet to see him take a shot over 150m so far I though think, and that was at a 10" plate

Not exactly what you'd call an Olympic level demonstration of his ability...

Sure, the old Winchester M320 has seen better days, and maybe the fixed mag Nikko Sterling has copped a flogging. But it seemed to shoot straight for all my bunnies, and I can't shoot to save myself :P
I reckon some people take themselves to full on. You gotta be able to laugh at yourself, regardless of how bad you shoot :P

Some pretty lame stories up there...... I once went duck hunting with 4 mates and got to the gate of the reserve and seen a mob of 50 ducks take flight about 1000 mtrs away, I put my 12gauge together, loaded it, took aim and let both barrels go, dropped the lot ! Bagged out in 2 shots !

That happens to me with deer.

I throw my knife first then shoot the blade so the bullet splits and takes multiple deer at once.

Tried this the other night. Needless to say, the Stinger wasn't a great bunny killer after hitting some fencing wire.
