Yeh, saw that the other day.
IMO Deer numbers are increasing in general, particularly fallow and sambar in Vic. Partly because they are protected in huge national parks. Now the government is having a winge. What else would you expect. Their solution is to create more NPs naturally.

Really interesting. I didn't realise they were becoming an issue.

Here's another slightly more in depth piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa7Ehl9UcHY

Sign me up if they need culling, in the next few years what with the kids a bit older etc I'll be able to get out and about more than I have been the last five.

We do cull them.
They inhabit a lot of area that is very difficult to hunt though.
And we are limited in our means to do so nowadays.
I see a lot of deer in areas just on the fringes of built up populated areas. Drive into any forest at dusk and if you’re the first vehicle going through, there they are.
And theres a lot in there. And I meant a lot. After heavy rain you’ll find fresh tracks of herds moving through trails, all sizes. Including some bloody big animals that have been around for a long time.
But public land, close to built up areas. The terrain is too thick to stalk.
They’re pretty smart for a cow. They know the safe places.
I dream of a world where chickens can cross the road without having their motives questioned

Tie hunters hands behind their backs and then claim they don't have enough impact on numbers so aren't viable population control measure
