We took it for a test drive afterwards and it was mint. He rang this arvo saying he'd broken down in Moe. So I went up there and it sounds to me like it's done a rod bearing (hell of a racket), so now he's looking for another engine for the thing (2010 Subaru wagon). He'd gone up to his mum's to prune a big blackwood hanging over the neighbour's fence, so I towed him around to her place (only 3km) and we cut the tree down. Then we loaded the bigger stuff in the van and brought it home for firewood. If the engine had gone two weeks ago he might not have bothered doing tyres and suspension, but it's a decent car so it's worth getting an engine if we can find one. He was given it with a blown engine years ago as a parts car for his other Subaru but it was so good he had an engine put in and it became his primary drive.
