Dressed out the sambar hind I shot at sunset last night.
These little Opinel folders are just fantastic value for money. Did the job on the sambar and fallow as well.
Got her in an ambush. Set up about 4.30 in some bracken with a seat. She came out of the thick sh1t to cross a clearing/saddle. (Abt 6.10pm)
There were two. Facing away from me. I waited. One walked off and she was slowly following, having a nibble as the went. When I gently blew my "fox blaster'" she stopped to look in my direction. She was angling away just slightly so i hit her just behind the shoulder from about 110yards using some rough shooting stix. (I had left mine at home)
She staggered then wobbled off into the thick sh1t.
I packed up my gear and waited 3-4 minutes. Headed down to search for her. Got pretty close to where I shot her and the resident stag trotted out in front of me, perhaps 30yards. I'd chambered a fresh round incase she needed a finisher, so I lifted the rifle and pulled when the + centred on his shoulder.......nothing, the safety was on.....
Well the freezer will be chockers in a couple a of days.
Sooo, perhaps it's better I didn't shoot the stag. Next time.
We found her early this morning in some high/thick bracken about 50-60 yards from where she was shot.
My share is currently hanging in the home brew fridge. Gave my mate a back leg. One shoulder (exit) was badly damaged so lost that. Bullet wasn't recovered unfortunately.
