Looks like it could knock a rabbit unconscious

But still, interesting, bring on the next generation

This is the same technology that propels very large passenger trains in excess of 300km/h. Magnetic levitation and linear propulsion. It's going to happen, sooner or later.
The "shock, horror" part is the 3D printing of (some of) the parts. I can hear the numpties now.

Front page news. New Star Wars style assault rifles exploit loopholes in our gun laws.

I think that they are in the "useless, cumbersome bit of kit" category. Interesting video, though.

Almost as good as a slingshot.
I was hoping to see something that shot beams of electrons star wars style.

Yes, it's basically just a Nerf Gun firing drill bits :-)

This looks like more fun, and no batteries :-)

I think they need to get the projectile spinning at high rpm before they'll get any range or accuracy out of it. If that can't be done within the magnets, maybe some sort of rifled choke tube?

This one is almost man-portable.

And it used to be said that levitation was an impossibility. Or even that the world was round.
Maybe not in your lifetime, but technology has a habit of advancing in ways that you never conceived as being possible.
I have a feeling that it will happen.

Or perhaps rather than all the drivers placed in parallel they could be arranged in a spiral to induce spin on a magnetised projectile

It would be great on cats but you’d also burn down your property.
