Telemarketers PITA

Post by Oldbloke » 18 May 2022, 9:22 am

I've been the target of these low life slugs for about 5 years now. About 7 or 8 calls a week on average. Seems once you get on some database your fukd.
Spat the dummy big time yesterday. Fukn realestate agent. (Mrs not happy)

In desperation was going to change mobile number next week. This would be a nightmare for me but what's been happening is just that. I'm on the "do not call" listing but that's useless.

Anyway I think I've found a good solution to share. Found on another forum.

In mobile options select "do not disturb"
Then make all your "contacts" exempt.

So now only my contacts will ring and all others need to leave a message. If it ain't important they won't leave a message. And they can fuk off.

So I will see how this works.

ditto, only they ring my landline. My response has been to take the phone off the hook and put it down somewhere, when I see a number that I don't recognise :D

Well, already had 2 callers that did not leave a message today.

"Cranky", fuk, I was way more than cranky yesterday.

I've tried a lot of strategies including leaving them on "hold". Trouble is none of them stop the initial call.

Ummm I've been on a "do not call" list for years. Still getting them.

Is the telstra list a new thing?

Edit. Just checked. I've been on that for years

It's actually a government thing https://www.donotcall.gov.au/

Iv been told that any legitimate company cold calling those numbers can get in strife.

Yes, been registered for 6 or 7 years. Checked today, still registered. It's a paper tiger. Majority of calls are made from overseas.

I only get the scammers.
Most recently

"Sir, We are calling about the $550 purchase you made 0n Ebay"

"Yes .. what about it ?"

"We are calling because if you didn't make the purchase we can help you get your money back"

"No that was me... I bought 55 12" dildos to jam up the backsides of scam callers"

"Clink"

I I get a next time I'll play along a little more and ham it right up then give them fake details... every minute I spend having fun is a minute they can't scam anyone.

I keep getting similar calls but the scammers pretend to be from some bank they then go on with we are checking that you made this overseas payment of $500-900. Often the bank they state is not the one I use a bit of a giveaway. I tell them that yes I did make that purchase and can they please hurry up and make the payment. Some try to switch tact and talk me out of making the payment as it may be a scam others just grunt and hang up.

Well, I'm happy to say the new settings seem to work.
Today,
1 legitimate message left.
2 more callers I didn't hear and neither left a message.
