Is the "wanted" section still working?

Post by Vince24 » 03 Dec 2022, 8:51 pm

Have been trying to post something there for a while, no success :unknown:

I know it has to be moderated, but how long does it take usually?

Cheers

Yeh, I can't work that logic out.
Scopes, camping/fishing gear, reloading stuff. IMO shouldn't be a problem. But "it is what it is" I guess.

Perhaps it's the time required to monitor it

I have no idea, and I agree I can't see any major issue without sales. I guess it does to a degree prevent scammers signing up to post garbage here.
Your best bet is to simply mention somewhere that you've decided to move something on and if others are interested they can PM you.
Or if you know somebody that you think might be interested in something PM them and ask if they're interested before you post it elsewhere, I've bought quite a lot of gear through this forum already this way.

Be aware though to confirm everything before sending any money. I've seen one report from a member that somebody PM'ed him with a scam. It can happen.

Not allowing "for sale" threads it a massive lost opportunity for the owner / owner's of enough gun.
It would be interesting to read the logic behind that.

Massive in what way? All I can see is more workload and potential complaints being caught in the middle of potentially unhappy buyers and sellers. I don't see any advantage to the forum owners.
There are plenty of other places we can buy and sell stuff already.

I can see a logic, it's inconvenient but there are plenty of others who specialise.

Perhaps it's a liability thing, perhaps it's a workload thing.

On the subject of "sending money", not ever to a stranger, physical exchange of goods and cash only for me.

It limits the scope of sales possibilities but eliminates the scam possibilities altogether.
I've got some NVG, a billet chassis and a camper trailer advertised elsewhere and got one scammer after another until I changed payment method from paypal to "Cash Only".

Admittedly I haven't had a single enquiry since but that's better than knob jockeys trying the same tired old scams.

What is the NVG you're selling? Rose has been pushing me to get thermal for a while.

Yep, or ask for an estimate on value. :)

Like I said though,we used to be able to sell stuff here,so I was more questioning as to why we can no longer do so.

I remember the same thing but if you're in Victoria could not advertise a firearm because of state law but now that is also changed so if the mods are willing to let you you can legally do it just for your information

Rose would have to be a very wise girl.
But will she help pay for it ?

She wants to pay for it, I don't want her to as I just don't think we'd use it enough to justify the expense. She would particularly want to use it on her bird counts and other such ventures. I might use it occasionally to drop a fox perhaps. For the cost I just don't see the value. And from what I see on forums these devices are still not very robust, and as the technology is being rapidly improved all the time a two-year old unit has little if any resale value, even if it does still work. The weather we tend to hunt in also makes me stay away from electronic devices.

Massive in the way of forum traffic.

I've used other forums where buying and selling happens on a regular basis to the tune of 10's of thousands amd much more at times, the forum takes no responsibility, members are rated as sellers and buyers according to feedback on successful sales, the increased traffic attracts paid sponsors who sometimes act as sellers offering discounted prices to forum members.

Something still isn't right with the new "wanted" threads. When they are first authorised they should pop up in the "active topics" like all new threads. Not happening I'm afraid. That makes them difficult to find.
