Not a stupid question but you may get some stupid answers.

Here's my take on it
Firstly, electricity will always take the path of least resistance to get to ground. So if it has to choose between a Tree (5-20k ohms Ω) a Person (10-100k ohms Ω) or a Barrel (5 ohms Ω) then the metal wins hands down due to it's very low resistance value. The further you shift that Barrel away from ground or lightning the less likely it is to choose that pathway, instead it will start to favour nearby closer objects if the resistance isn't too high i.e. a Tree.

If there is a large tree or building nearby, more likely hit that.

When there’s heaps of lightning it’s pretty scary if you’re out in the open. The air is charged.
Probably best to have a few spare gun bearers tbh.

When carrying a riflle home in a storm if you get hit by lightning then you no longer have to worry about your rifle getting rusty , or going to work on Monday morning or the price of deisel

Actually....Standing under a tree has proven to be the second leading cause of death during a lightning storm.
Staying well clear from natural lightning conductors and heading to low ground if possible is your best bet if you don't have a vehicle or building to shelter in.

G'day,

If my memory is correct going out fishing in a boat during a thunderstorm can be life shortening. I seem to remember [from my days living in Northern Wisconsin where there are lots of lakes] that lightening 'likes' small boats full of rods, reels and so on. Being the only object floating in the middle of a lake is the issue.

Yeah I don’t know. Anyway that’s just fatalities. I’ve had lightning crack very close to me a couple of times. Like right in my face.
Twice that I can recall anyway. But hey I also see ufos sometimes and I believe in yowies. So perhaps I’m not the most reliable source.

Yeh, there will be a lot more hits/injuies. But if your worried about lightening, dont drive to go to the range or hunting, must be 1200 deaths on the road.

Taken from an article I won’t bother linking because it’s full of pop ups and who knows what viruses malware.

“A duck is not able to kill a human. Because of their small frame and limited fighting capabilities, even the largest duck breeds pose very little threat to humans. However, in very rare circumstances, a duck can unintentionally cause indirect damage that results in a person’s death.”

But is it unintentional or are ducks cunning enough to make it look like an accident.
So whilst I’ve struggled to find statistics on duck related deaths and injuries, perhaps not such an unreasonable fear.
Do you let them cross the road or is this some kind of ambush .

This is really messing with my head now.
This is a rabbit hole i really didn’t plan going down, thanks Lazarus
