Noises in the Night

Post by Wm.Traynor » 05 Dec 2023, 9:32 pm

The strangest thing has happened for the second night running.
While preparing for bed last night around 9:30 pm, I heard a noise that sounded like snoring and eventually put it down to the young man next door sleeping off something potent. However, on entering the bedroom it was very obvious that the snoring was not only louder but that it was coming from the backyard. After turning on the outside light I set off down the path in the direction of the rotary hoist and the noise. The path itself was between our house-wall and the neighbouring fence and as I drew closer to the hoist it appeared that there was something on the very top of the palings.
Something fairly small, thought I, like a possum. They have been known to scuttle along the very tops of fence palings, for who-knows what-reason.

But last night, this fence sitter was an owl, a tawny frogmouth!
And tonight, in the silence after the tv was turned off, I heard it again. This time it was fence sitting on the other side of the house.
How about that :D

Easy for some as you say and if I lived where I could keep a loaded gun handy the cat population would suffer a dramatic decline :D
