Are we near the brink of WWIII?

Post by straightshooter » 05 Feb 2024, 7:11 am

I have noticed a sudden uptick in talk about WWIII in regular news sources, as distinct from the usual grist for the mill found on the doom porn websites I sometimes visit.
Add to that the US and UK (accompanied by their favorite mascot Australia) have started bombing the middle east in order to avert WWIII ?
Where do others think things are headed; business as usual? recession leading to depression? economic collapse? WWIII ?

Straightshooter, our views often clash, but I feel you're on the money here.

I believe it kicked off with the annexation of Crimea, I believe Putin is Xi's "convenient idiot", wearing down his own military capacity while also drawing down western strategic stocks.

Taiwan is the perfect magician's misdirection. Have everyone thinking, and planning around, a move on Taiwan, when the real objective is Siberian resources.

Once Vlad the Defenestrator has exhausted his military and economic capacities, Xi can offer a way out by getting his hands on all those goodies for peanuts.

Meanwhile, the sweetheart deal he has on OUR lpg, is letting China reap huge profits at our expense by selling that cheap gas to Europe to replace the shortfall from Russia, while at the same time paying bargain basement prices for the oil and gas Russia would have sent there.

I also believe that while covid occurred naturally from the Chinese habit of eating anything that doesn't get out of their way, the release of millions of infected citizens on the world was a golden opportunity they couldn't turn down.

Sun Tzu
"The greatest victory is that which requires no battle. If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him."

"The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting"

"Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win."

A fascinating insight into why many countries do the things that they do and without the bias, propaganda or complete lack of coverage from mainstream media. Some very interesting predictions about how different parts of the world will fare in the post globalization era too.

I think that a true 'World War III' will be a nuclear exchange and over very quickly, anything prior to that is just a more direct form of politics any largely just the cold war returning and warming up a little.

The writing was on the wall in the 1930's with Germany and Japan......Australia knew then that the scrap steel that we were sending to Japan was going to come back to us as bombs etc.

All the crap we buy from China we just give them hard currency and the scrap steel we sell them, that is going to come back to us as missiles.

All our politicians of all flavours have sold out the Lucky Country from beneath our feet.

Australia must consider bringing back conscription as ‘all-out war’ with Russia looms

A better, and more realistic use of the many hundreds of billions going overseas to buy subs that have functionally zero chance of materialising if the current situation continues to escalate, is to spend the money here developing a sovereign anti-ship, anti-satellite, and anti-sumarine cruise and ballistic missile capability.

Its coming. When, who knows.

This will sound negative I know. IMHO it's too late for us. By the time the politicians get their act together we will be eating rice, crickets and bats.

And that applies to all parties. They are all worse than useless.

IMO we need to at least double our defence spending,,, urgently.

I reckon they know we're in deep s**t, China definitely won't be waiting for us to build new subs either.

You may well be right, but it seems unlikely unless conventional arms fail for someone.

Right now appears to qualify according the accepted definition in Websters:
"A world war is an international conflict that involves most or all of the world's major powers."

We have NATO, Russia, China, Nth and South Korea, Australia involved in some form in Ukraine, Israel, Iran, Palestine, fighting in Gaza, Saudis fighting Iranian proxies in Yemen, Iran is lobbing missiles at Pakistan
Seems like "world" war to me.

But I really hope you're right :drinks:

will be interesting to see what pans out, China cannot mobilize and most of its tech and staff are trained for conventional warfare and even so, despite numbers, are vastly outgunned by the USA and allies. same goes for anyone, also the US troops are far more accustomed to battle, as are their commanders, no one is as versed in modern warfare as the united states.

Yes, a few are involved but mainly just supply of materials and aid.
During wwii all of the oceans at some point experienced war. Most continents were experiencing war and most countries were fighting.

Pine gap would be a prime target.
History tells us that nothing raises the white flag faster than dropping nukes on cities.

As for the long term effects, the USA has already conducted full scale tests there.

We have 4.1% arable, none of it in major population centres, nukes would solve China's food supply

On the contrary, conscription of today's youth would be the best thing for them and for the future of this country DJ, teach them some respect, teach them that instant gratification is not the paragon, that there is an obligation to the tit on which they so avidly suck.

maybe, but honestly, no professional victimhood, dyed hair, 15 piercings, womans studies, gender studies, gender this gender that, trans, lgbt etc etc is going to be of any use whatsoever in a proper conflict. They would more likely, and most likely, or maybe most definitely be the first to start giving into opposing sides propaganda campaigns and garbage and be the usual turncoat nobodies we could do without...

they are already so desperate to label the rest of us as some kind of bigot or phobe so having an enemy of the state willing to lure them in would take no effort at all to make them into opponents of peace here, even more than they already are.
