Shooting breaking windows (stupid warning)

Post by kritch » 29 May 2014, 3:38 pm

I think I've been hit by a know-it-all at the range but here goes

He tells me for hunting you shouldn't shoot off the door frame of your car because the blast can break a window.

That's gotta be BS right?

They do heaps of rests for mounting on your car doors for exactly that purpose.

BS?

I used to break heaps of windows when I worked underground on blast crew lol, but it was when someone had wound the windows up all the way with the doors shut, otherwise it was near impossible. Ive seen windows survive 8 tons of anfo explode from about 40 meters away ( around the corner from the blast of course ) So i'd say not gunna happen from that point of view ...

I'm calling BS.

Unless he's literally resting the muzzle on the window perhaps.

I've shot a 300 Win Mag while leaning on open doors or on the roof with the muzzle hanging over the front window no problems.

Next time you are at the range tell him he was absoloutly correct and the window did break but now you wind the window down first and that seem to fix the problem

Seen windscreens crack from rifles being shot off the bonnet but never a side window being damaged.
