Adelaide "fluid" ?

Post by Die Judicii » 21 Dec 2024, 6:40 pm

I labelled it as fluid,, cos i can't bring myself to call it water. I'm in Adelaide for Xmas, and staying in one of the newer suburbs. What comes out of the taps is the most heavily chlorinated/fluoridated fluid I've ever come across. Having travelled pretty large and varied areas of Australia,,, i must say this stuff is the worst I've ever come across. Even when making strong coffee it is still overpowering. I've given up (after 3 days of trying to ignore it) and have decided to buy bottled spring water which I normally avoid, instead,, to keep hydrated. The smell of the water while having a shower definitely leaves something to be desired. Maybe the water board spells the name of this city as,,, Addle-aide ?

I,m with you on that one. It makes its horrid taste through so many foods and drinks. They say you get used to it but it seems like you shouldnt even be exposed to it.

Could be a good time to learn about the rape and pillage of the Murray River (and other river systems) and the resultant water "quality", after treatment, that the community at large can consume after the "primary industries" have had their take.

Adelaide water has always been rubbish needing heaps of treatment just to be unbearable. It's why West End was garbage until production moved to Vic and why Coopers never use City water.

I don't remember the water being good there. A mix of Murray River sludge and desalinated water. As I recall there were some dams up in the Adelaide Hills so I would guess they get some of their water from there.

These days regardless of the source of water I would run it though a whole house filtration system. It's pretty easy to set one up on your own. I also have a water distilling machine to distill the water further. I drink distilled water and then also have some bottled water, usually something like Acqua Panna from Italy for my drinking water. If traveling you can also buy those pitchers that have an inbuilt filter on them.

Not a good idea to drink distilled water as it has a number of undesirable effects due to complete lack of micro nutrients or electrolytes.
Little known factoids are when boxers or jockeys want to dehydrate as quickly as possible for a weigh in they drink distilled water beforehand. Distilled water also upsets blood balance.

Your not ment to drink it, its purely for flushing turds away.

From Google generally considered safe to drink ... "generally"
Yeah, it literally smells like a freshly chlorinated pool, look where it comes from, the asshole end of the Murray, stagnant water full of rotting fish, bodies in barrels, blue green algae blooms PFAS, dumped cars, house boat septic tanks, then its pumped into dams that can't keep up with the demand for the great stuff.

You should see what comes out of my tap 30 km to the East before it hits the clasy suburbs of Adelaide, it smells the same with the added bonus of being brown in colour.
I wonder if SA even has water quality standards?
Surely not

WOW,,, when I posted that I thought I'm sure to upset the natives and get boooed all the way back to Qld. I think it's extra hard for me because I'm used to drinking plain un adulterated rainwater.

Rainwater is what runs through my body too, but I wouldn't drink it from around a city or town area.

I'm guessing rain water tanks would be very popular?

In cities I think most people just use rainwater for gardening, I wouldn't be drinking it without a really good filter system to remove the pollution coating all the roof sufaces.

Our water comes off our sheds, which are covered by oak trees, full of birds, possums, rats, and other wildlife. During the winter the water is very clear as the rain keeps the roof mostly clean, but toward the end of summer it's getting a brown tinge and has more things moving around in it. Doesn't do us any harm though.

And all of that crap settles on the bottom of the tank. Only rarely cleaned out.

But, the creeks and rivers in Gippsland collect the same crap. To eventually feed into Melbourne's drinking water.

Yes I have heard such things about distilled water. That is why I cover my bases by also drinking spring and mineral water too. Usually Evian or Acqua Panna or something along those lines. Mostly I just use the distilled water for hot or cold tea.

growing up in logan south of brisbane tap water was always fine . still is . i you had've told me in the late 80"s ,when i was in my late teens, that in the future people would buy water in plastic containers at a higher price than petrol, i would've thought it crazy talk. sad to hear water in SA is so low standard and full of chemicals
