I used to think that shooters and hunters were conservatives, included in being one of theose is a desire to be left alone to prosper if one works hard in a system that rewards them, is respected and unjudged until they show otherwise.

Actually I was very close to this industry and very involved in the manufacturing of one of the two types of smart meters used in Aus and they can actually turn off your power to your house remotely Its True. They can not however tell if you have an aircon on or off. There are two circuits in the meters a timed and a not timed the timed circuit is wired to hot water supply units to turn them on during off peak times.

And, typical for those experts who'll comment on something they know nothing about, friends of ours in town who do our electrical work, husband and wife electricians, reckon the newer smart meters have indeed been used to regulate a/c's.
Something like an impulse sent through the grid to the meter that can control the system, because all of these meters have the a/c's connected to a particular output. Old tech apparently, similar to the signals sent to cable TV to unlock videos to download, watch sports events.
I'm not a sparky, but my mates are brilliant and not prone to quoting Google for self-appraisal.
