Aus Post and WA (a world away)

Post by Die Judicii » 14 Apr 2025, 9:51 pm

I had a parcel posted to me from WA using Aust Post.

Tracking details say Aus post recieved it at 8-30am on Mon 7th April.
Since then the only advancement tracking wise is "It's on its way"

It's now Mon 14th April and it's still "on its way"

Expected delivery is supposedly Tues 22nd April,,,,, but Aus Post can't tell me where it is. :wtf: :problem:

It would seem that WA truly is a world away. (Wait Awhile,,,,, Longer)

This is about the norm. I live in regional WA - without doxxing myself it's less than a days drive to get to Perth, but more than a few hours.

I budget two weeks if ordering from QLD or NSW

Ahh, Aussie Post. Chicago to Sydney 2 days, Sydney to Melbourne 2 days, Dandenong depot (Eastern Suburbs) to Sunshine depot (Western Suburbs) 4 days, Sunshine to my suburb in the West 3 days. Did have one detour Dandenong to Perth then back to Sunshine once.

I used to have a weird phenomenon when I would send things to WA express post with a return express post bag inside.
Was always 2 days to get there but always 3-4 days to come back

The following has nothing to do with time elapsed,,,,,,,, but costing of postage.

A number of years ago I purchased an Aimpoint Micro H-1 in the USofA
I cannot remember the actual postage cost,,, but typically (from America it was far from cheap)

When it arrived, I blanked out all the addresses on the box with Texta pen, and took it down to the local PO.
I slid it across the counter and asked "How much to post this ?" ( to the address in America where it came from )

Mr Postman measured the box,, popped it on the scales and said $xxx
It was only a mere fraction of what the postage to Australia cost me.

Something seems inherently wrong with a situation like that.

Postage out of the US has been horrendous for a few years now. When I was racing I bought from the US motorcycle wheels complete with tyres, four cylinder motorcycle engines, complete exhaust systems and complete front-ends, because it was cheap and the postage from the US was cheap, and fast. Postage out of the UK though made Europe nonviable as a source of parts. The dollar at the time was also on-par with the US dollar which really helped.

Some items though it can be worth checking as the parts themselves are cheap enough that even though the postage is ridiculous it can still be cheaper than buying within Oz, and you can get it quicker. I'm sure some people don't keep stock so you have to wait for them to receive it from the US before they send it on to you.

As for OzPost, I posted mine and Rose's licence applications in town, together, in registered post envelopes. Hers went directly to Melbourne, mine went via Perth so took a week longer.
