Drivers licence gun licence

Post by alexjones » 04 Jul 2025, 11:38 pm

So I found out the hard way when the police pull you over(In QLD) and search your drivers licence in their system they can see that you have a gun licence.

I was not aware that the drivers licence and gun licence was linked.

Did anyone else know this? This must be a somewhat new feature.

mate, when the computer in the cop car scans your license plate they know everything these days . unpaid fines, legal history and gun license . technology in this modern world scares me in some ways . wish i could jump into a time machine and go back to 1974 . :)

Your drivers licence is the 'Australia Card' that they couldn't get through in the 1980's.....but they ended up getting it clandestinely.
My stance on gun control depends on firearm, caliber, wind, and obstacles.

Had mine checked a couple of times during a road side breath test. Once going from the range and once coming back from the range. No problem at all. It is a bit nerve racking, though. Maybe a case of nothing to hide.....nothing to fear, maybe.

10 years ago the ACT had 2 police cars with cameras hanging off the side that were supposed to scan every number plate that drove past in real time, the ACT had 4G coverage over the while territory. I got pulled over twice and had my car searched for weapons, "randomly". I'd assume QLD had something similar.

I often get pulled over going through NSW . Because in some of the smaller country towns the sheriff, well not actually a sheriff but sure as s**t thinks he is. They’re just hyper vigilant. Never seen that car before. VIC plates. Need to go to the bakery anyway.

And I know that they know and they know that I know that they know.

But I’m not breaking any laws. So there’s nothing to discuss.

If I had one sitting on my lap. Would probably get a very different result.

I took this photo in NSW. That’s Ayer’s rock in the background.

They can see far far more than that. I think Qld maybe a little slow with things, OK with a lot of things, but the Wieambilla shootings would have surely fix that. In NSW and VIC your address will flag that there are firearms at that address, as will a name search, a rego search.

couple years ago i saw a news article on vic cop cars with in car systems that scan every license plate and instantly know which cars are registered or not, and whether outstanding warrants were out on the registered owner of the car, and the status of their license, P plate, disqualified, work license, whatever . and this tech was years ago :problem: imagine what they got now

Why does it matter what they know about us ? They don’t have the resources or motive to bother innocent people going about their business

You’re innocent until they change the laws to make you a criminal.

which government department administers firearms licensing? Why would it at all be surprising that employees of that very same department have access to that information?

Who do you think wants guns gone? it's the top cops telling the govt what they want done.

They could scan a gun license in most states, well before the new tech that tells them everything by just scanning a plate on an oncoming car.

It may not have come up until they checked the license and maybe slacker cops didn't bother doing all the checks, just warrants.
