Howdy Folks, I’ve got an I phone 16, and everytime i have an update it wants me to install “facial recognition” , which i do NOT want. It doesn’t give me an option to say i don’t ever want it. As a result when the update is finished i have the annoying flag on my screen saying “Lets finish setting up your phone”. The only way i can get rid of that is to go back to the Telstra shop,, and somehow they get rid of it , but it always comes back to the same issue again with the next update. They refuse to show me how to get rid of that “Lets finish setting up your phone” message for some obscure reason. Does anyone here know how to do it ?

Yep — that “Let’s finish setting up your iPhone” nag screen is a common one. Apple pushes it after updates if you’ve skipped setting up Face ID (or Touch ID, Apple Pay, Siri, etc.). There’s no way to tell iOS “never ask me again,” but you can dismiss it without a Telstra visit.

Here are a few workarounds:

1. Manually Dismiss the “Finish Setting Up” Banner

Go to Settings.

At the very top you’ll see the “Finish Setting Up Your iPhone” prompt.

Tap it — even though it looks like you’re being forced into Face ID setup.

You’ll see a checklist (Face ID, Apple Pay, iCloud, etc.).

For Face ID, tap Set Up Later in Settings (tiny option at the bottom).

Once you’ve tapped through each item and skipped them this way, the banner disappears until the next major update.

2. Turn Off Face ID/Passcode Completely

If you don’t want Face ID at all:

Go to Settings → Face ID & Passcode.

Enter your passcode.

Toggle iPhone Unlock, iTunes & App Store, and any other Face ID options to off.

If it’s still nagging, scroll down and select Reset Face ID (this clears any setup remnants).

3. Update Without Being Nagged (Partial Fix)

When a new iOS update appears, install it through Settings → General → Software Update rather than through the popup prompts. Then repeat step 1 above to skip Face ID — this minimizes how often it nags.

4. Last Resort (If Banner Stays Stuck)

Sometimes the banner won’t clear because one item in Apple ID settings wasn’t tapped.

Go to Settings → Apple ID (your name) → iCloud/Payment & Shipping/Security and make sure each section is either filled in or deliberately skipped (“Set Up Later”).

⚠️ Unfortunately, Apple designed this as a dark-pattern nag. There’s no official permanent “don’t ever ask again” toggle — the best you can do is skip setup properly so the message clears until the next update.

Oh, sorry - my devise is simply used as a 'phone. If I need to do anything "smart", I use my PC, which has a nice 27" screen on which I can see everything.

I'm the same. I hate Googling anything on the phone, you get far better results with the same search on a PC. I've had people look at me weird when I say I don't do bank stuff or email on the phone.

I haven't had nag screens on this current phone but on the rare occasions I reboot my computer it wants to run me through the set-up rubbish. No idea about how to make it gone but computers only last about five years anyway, and I can tolerate skipping the set-up crap maybe four times a year.

Thanks MG150. Much appreciated. So much for technology improving and making our lives easier, i reckon day to day issues are just made so much more complicated because of it. The simple fact that half the steps you outlined are not publicised and made easily found for the average person makes me wonder,, are the children of today born with that knowledge emblazoned on their brain ??
