We start em young in the country!

Post by jennageit » 08 Aug 2014, 5:30 pm

A hot summer, a kid with a lever action water pistol, and a dog who wont stop barking at shadows.

CJ, short for Catriona Jenna is about three years old in this shot, and she's all set.

Since she's heard me talking about getting my shooters licence, she wants one too and thinks it's mighty unfair that she can't get hers yet. Her question, "why can't five year olds get them?" lol

She was having a ball. The dog, not so much lol

Every time the dog even looked like barking, CJ would stare at her. At one stage the dog went to the far end of the chain, thinking she'd be safe. Dog barked, CJ said "No", dog barked again, CJ fired! Got the dog right up the bum with a mild jet of water.

This stopped the dog barking, and made her think twice about barking at shadows after that. CJ was then disappointed that the dog got the message so quickly, so set about soaking her brother (who is 13 years older than her) every time he tried to walk past!

Lots of fun for all concerned (except maybe the 'now quiet' dog), and something I'm sure many would see as a bad thing, is this day and age!

She was most horrified when the dog actually got hold of it and bit it into a million tiny little pieces!

She actually came to me and said:

"Mum, can you buy me another gun? This one's broken and the dog still barks" she says

This little girl is now 5 years old,and still asks me where her new gun is.

Sitting at the table for dinner last night, she says to her big brother and sister; "I'm gunna get my shooters licence and shoot foxes, aren't I mum?

We definitely do start them young round here

I bought my 70 year old aunt a pump up water pistol to clear Indian mynah birds from her inner city yard, they fly away when she walks outside with it, that is all we can shoot them with in the city.

A late night with a Dolphin torch and the same water pistol must have traumatised the possum who lived in her roof as we never saw it again after a spotlighting session which drained the tank,it took off over the back fence and never returned.
