My first shoot is happening, soon!

Post by jennageit » 09 Aug 2014, 1:16 pm

Well,

It's confirmed, almost.

If my back plays nice, I'll be taking myself (actually, my husband will be driving me cos I'm not allowed to drive just yet) off to the Leongatha Small Bore Rifle Club next Wednesday night!

I know it's days away, but I'm already looking forward to it.

When I rang to ask the secretary about it, he was lovely.

His words:

"Bring a jacket cos it can get cold, and go piss before you get here cos we don't have a toilet!"

I'm going shooting! sort of!

Ciao

Three days to go!
If I was really keen, I'd work out how many hours, but that'd take brain work, and right now, my brain is just an accessory lol

And Baldrick, I changed my signature again lol

Silly question but have you fired a rifle yet Jenna ?

I took my apprentice from work out yesterday to fire the .22, he had a smile from ear to ear I really enjoy introducing new shooters to the sport

I can't see that happening mate. I used to love going shooting with my dad, but then, that was 25 years ago.

Only two days to go, once I get rid of this day that is.

I was struggling to find a way to make the time go quickly, and Microsoft Word came to my rescue! My book, that I've put over 30,000 words into suddenly had a s**t fit. The spell checker that I rely on (If I don't use spell checker, I have to read every individual word to make sure there aren't any spelling errors) decided to crap itself. To date, three computer guru's haven't been able to fix the problem, so I have had to download a new template and start all over again, retyping EVERY LAST DAMN WORD in all over again!

93 pages in total to be retyped, and only 12 have been done so far! Now I know how to spend my days until I get to go shooting! Not what I would have chosen for a time killer, but it'll do!

With the number of posts Jenna has for someone who's never fired a gun I think it's a safe bet she will like shooting

I firmly believe that if you're gunna do something, you give it your all.

56 hours and 4 minutes to go, not that I'm counting or anything!!

As for a centrefire, for me, is there a need for one? should i be looking at them too?

Remember, bunnies, foxes and rats is what i'm planning on shooting. oh, and some target shooting as well.

I remember my first shots, i was around 6 or 7 when my father let me have a go of his 22,there was an old car with an Ampol sign on its door in the paddock, dad told me to aim for the centre of the O on Ampol, i scored a bullseye, little did i know anyone could look good when handed a perfectly sighted in rifle.

In high school we had an air rifle range in the playground, of course those in cadets got to fire a M16 at Singleton army base on the annual camp, the guy next to me shot on my target so we both got another magazine and remembered to make the same mistake in following years.

The Army guys supervising us would use full auto to cut the angle iron down that held the targets up at the end of the session.

One day you will need a centrefire, some say a 22 is not adequate for foxes yet i would bet 99% in this forum would say a 22 is ok at less than 100 yards with a headshot.

Enjoy your first shoot.

Just joking with the centrefire, no mad rush for you to get that just yet IMO.

22LR will do all that for you. If you really want to extend your range in time maybe you get a .223 or something.

Don't let me talk you out of your 22 though! They're good fun and will do what you want now.

Everyone needs a 22 anyway ;)

I wish I lived by you, I would bring a couple by for you to try out. I like to see new hunters and shooters, any one that can get into a out door sport is good for every one.

P.S. woman are the fastest growing group of shooters here in the states and for some reason there voice carries more weight in public opinion so we need you.

10 hours and 40 minutes to go!

Wrenchman, I've already been disowned by a lot of women I know, simply because I'm into cars (buying, restoring and then forgetting to sell them hehe), I want to start shooting and I don't give a damn about fake nails, putting colour in my hair and wearing the latest fashion.

but then, who cares?! I'm happy, and that's what counts right?

take a couple of them woman shooting once you get your 22 you will find a few more that like it.
joom i do hope you get your wish for semis and pumps to be legal again.
this is a personal opinion but with the most recent conceal carry laws and lots of woman takeing corses has realy helped our gun right it is much easyer to tell a man he dont he dont need a gun then a 100 pound young lady .

Hey there Jenna,,
Just a thought,,,,,,,,,,
As a sure fire solution to all those foxes, rabbits, ducks, and bush rats on the 7 acres,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Why not have a BBQ over a long weekend, and invite some of the forum members (maybe 5 or six hundred) to come and do a fox drive etc.
That should be enough fire power to rid all pestilence from the property.
And prior to that they could use some of those many vehicle tail lights to check their zero.

Just a thought,,,,,,,,,,,,
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!
I've come to realize that,,,,, the two most loving, loyal, and trustworthy females in my entire life were both canines.

Just over an hour to go and I'm going to be shooting.

Time for a shower, some dinner and then I'm gone.

I'll update you all on how it goes, and whether it's going to be for me or not.

Wish me luck guys! :)

Update: First shoot done, wanna know the results?
