First shoot done, wanna know the results?

Post by jennageit » 13 Aug 2014, 10:01 pm

Hi Guys,

Off I went to the leongatha small bore rifle club, and met the guys and girl.

Pretty much straight away I was shown a Browing No.2 22, nice looking rifle, weighed a little but wasn't exacly uncomfortable.

Next I was taken out to the range.

20m range & 50m range. I thought they'd start me at the 20m, but I was wrong.

Using one of their club rifles, I had 10 shots at the target card. Of the ten shots, I got inside the circle 8 times, with 2 of them being pretty damned close to a bullseye.

After that, the target rifle was replaced with the browning, and I hit the target card 5 times, nothing anywhere near the target circles lol.

Oh, all of this was bench target, not standing, nor prone.

I'm happy, and I'm pretty damned sure I'm going to do it again!

There's the update for you guys!

Jenna

Bet it felt good after all the anticipation! :-)

It felt fantastic, apart from one tiny little thing.

The target rifle was great, no issues whatsoever once I realised that I had to be firmer with the bolt than I thought I would have to be.

The Browning 22 was a different story. I really liked it, but when Chris got me holding it in the correct position, with it resting against my cheek, it hurt the side of my face. it's not that i was pressing too hard, or that it kicked, it was because I had the toothache from hell. My back was screaming but easy to ignore, but the toothache, well, I tried to ignore it.

On the target paper, which i'll get a photo for you all tomorrow, you can see that i didn't hit one target circle, although Chris said that the scope wasn't set up for those targets.

with the target rifle, I managed to hit almost dead centre twice!!!

now i'm thinking of joining their club. there are very few members (about 8 or 9 from what i can gather) and all of them, except one, was really lovely. I learnt a heap, and am looking forward to going back again. unfortunately the membership cost is prohibitive right now, but i'll figure something out!

and you guys were right, i shouldn't have worried about the kick on the 22, either of them. i've had lambs kick me 50 times harder than either of those rifles did!

Yep,,,, great

Now all you have to do is try one that kicks a little bit more than the .22

Its called a .577 Tyrannosaurus Rex.

 :D ;)

Thanks guys, I'm hooked!!

Now my hubby has just told me how we're going to go about saving up the money for me to be able to pay membership to the club. how cool is that?

I've got a great hubby, he's supporting me in this, and i couldn't be happier!

Actually, I could be happier. I could have my bloody rifle already!!! lmao

Well done Jenna, great result for your first time out, no doubt with some time and practice you will be doing it consistently.

How'd you feel now after worrying about the recoil from a .22?

I had a great time.

The recoil on the 22 was nothing, so I was happy with that. I found the trigger on the target rifle to be very soft, a little less soft was the other 22 that I got to shoot.

Not sure i'll be moving up yet though. I want to have a few more goes, maybe not sitting at a bench this time, of the 22.

My husband has been looking around for target rifles for me lol and all he got to see what my card! lol

Now, my biggest problem is that I have to wait a week to be able to do it all again! Although, I had to go and have a tooth pulled out about 2 hours ago, so maybe it's a good thing I wait.

Letter arrived today from a property owner, so my licence application is being posted tomorrow!!! yay!

Triggers vary a lot!

As a general rule lighter is better, but some guys like a little weight on them. Up to you what works for you...

Light enough for your preference with a nice crisp break is what you want.

We should put bets on with how long it will take your husband to get his licence when he watches you plinking in the yard.

As you will find when someone hands you a rifle that is perfectly sighted in it makes it easy to look good, the hard part is figuring out what to adjust and when to adjust it with the scope.

The newer scopes with rangefinders make life easier, i might wait for the Eliminator 4-

He'll need it to renew his man-card if the wife is the only shooter in the household

I'm betting it'll take about a month before he wants his shooters licence lol

I'm also not a fan of him fiddling with my rifle, even with me there. I know he can do a supervised shoot without his licence, but I'm pretty possessive of stuff like that, especially if i've got it set up the way i want it.

Man card? I must ask him where it is lmao

Just send off the paperwork for him now. Then in a month once he comes to his senses he'll have already gone through the waiting period while it was submitted. :D

I'm actually a little concerned. He's been talking a lot about how he'll set up this, or set up that for him, umm me. I'll definitely be hiding the safe keys I think, and I'll let him know that I'm going shooting AFTER i've come back lol

I'm giving it two months I reckon, before he'll have to get his own licence, and his own gun. for him though, he'll probably get a shotty. He doesn't seem all that keen on rifles.

Shotties can be fun too :)

You should leave that alone until your back is sorted though. A 12 gauge has some kick...

Yep, he can, and no doubt will.

I'll definitely stick to rifles. I can't see how I'd need anything else, and as he's a shotty man, i'll leave them to him. Sounds fair I reckon!

I reckon everyone someone buys a 3-4 gun safe and says to the guy at the gun store "I'm only getting 1 gun" he thinks to himself, "sucker, you'll be back".
