Post by rainwalker » 22 Aug 2014, 1:26 pm

Dunno if this is a how long is a piece of string question, but how far will a ricochet come back?

If you're hunting and hit a rock or hard wood I guess?

50m? 100m? further?

Curious, any infos good. Thanks.

From what Ive seen and heard .22's are prolly the most notorious for having a ricochet, but like Tomsaid above never discount anything doing it, lol Ive seen that vid and I bet they had to use the jaws off life to reopen his clacker valve again.

I think Newton had something to say about this!!!!A little thing called Newtons law and it goes a little like this

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

.

This law is exemplified by what happens if we shoot off a 50 Cal round onto a steel plate at 400 yrds in the backyard: as the projectile moves in the direction of the plate and strikes it, the ricochet tends to move in the opposite direction (leaving us facedown on the ground with our head blown off, if we aren't careful!). :geek: :geek:
And this ends the science lesson for today!!!!!!
I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

You'd have to be shooting some heavy pills for that though.

Don't have a ballistics calculator handy, but anything on the lighter end must just about have the energy of throwing a pebble by that distance.

Haven't done it personally, but have seen photos from blokes who've had .22LR bounce back at the rimfire range.

Just a bit of a tap and bounced off them from what I read. Not sure if that was subsonic or supersonic ammo though.
