Maintaining a reloading press

Post by south » 01 Sep 2014, 10:29 pm

Hi guys,

Do you need to do anything to keep your reloading press in working order?

Do any bits wear out or need replacing? Or do they pretty much last forever?

Oil - nothing ever wore out because of too much lubrication!......Keep your grubby little minds above your navels thank you!
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

The lee load master wears a few plastic parts out, the Dillons are more hard wearing. I lightly oil all the working parts and exposed non painted parts, not the whole press so to keep dust attraction to a minimum. The Lee progressives will fail to work properly with not enough and too much lubrication. They're a bit of a Goldie locks machine, the Dillon have a few barings that need to be properly maintained. All presses work better when kept clean.

What press do you have, maybe someone could give you a few pointers for your press.

No plastic in my press (super simplex master) so nothing really to wear out, I give the metal surfaces a wipe over with Inox every now and then and that's it.

The rod would benefit from a clean and re-grease every now and then.

TBH though I haven't done mine in probably 2,000 rounds though and it's perfect.

Nothing to them really...

I just do mine when it gets a bit gritty.

Would be a couple of months each time at least.

The same here.

Only when needed which might be ones a year.

Wipe down and an layer of grease. Raise/drop the arm a few times to smooth it out and wipe away the excess.

Hey presto.
