License Application never received. HELP!!!

Post by jennageit » 05 Sep 2014, 9:59 am

Hi Guys,

I've just rung to see how long before my license comes through, and I've been told that they have no record of ever receiving it!

Now I'm panicking, not only because I'm putting things in place for getting my first rifle, not to mention joining the gun club, but there's a lot of information in that envelope! Certified copies of my birth certificate, drivers license, medicare card etc. Even a copy of my marriage certificate.

What should I do?

Also, any idea how I go about getting a replacement copy of my safety course completion?

I'm sitting here a little shell shocked, so haven't thought it all through properly just yet, but I'm hoping you guys can come up with some suggestions. By my calculations, it's been about three weeks (I think) since I sent it.

How long ago did you send it Jenna?

I guess get onto whom ever did the course and see if they can photocopy the paperwork and get it witnessed etc, then start the whole process again. What did the FR recommend?

Jenna dont panic. This answer is common place give it a day or two and call again and hopefully you will get someone diffrent. Your application is probably just sitting in a pile somwhere . This happened to me with a PTA then the next day it turned up in the mail approved. There was an instance here in NSW where a mail worker was ripping up everything going to the firearms registry and it was reccomended to register mail there for a while.

I got told mind wasn't received and called a few days later and it was.

It's probably sitting in someone's 'IN' tray at the moment.

Okay guys, I'll ring on Monday and see what they tell me.

As for ripping up everything that is going to the FR, I know a cure for that particular disease, and it's permanent with absolutely no chance of it ever coming back! grrr

Was going to ask the same thing. Maybe got my dates wrong from other threads but didn't you just do it last week or something?

Not that it's helpful now but if you need to send maybe fax or email so you get a delivery confirmation thing.

Postal mails crap :(

Another reason to do it online.. Don't mean to be harsh, but everyone know that's done it online had no probs, whereas postal seems to be a nightmare..
Hope things work out for you

Hi Browning,

I wasn't aware it could be done online, otherwise I would have done it that way.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get to speak to someone different on Monday, and that my paperwork is found and sorted.

I think he means scan and email it?

You can't do it with an online form or anything last time I looked...

Honestly I don't know how worried I'd be about losing it. I know there is some 'sensitive' stuff but if it's lost it's probably fallen out of a bag into the gutter somewhere and is rotting away.

It didn't get found by some super-villain who's stealing your identity for some nefarious plot, you know?

Don't stress either way, doesn't help you with anything.

I used registered post with delivery confirmation. It's definitely worth it for the piece of mind.

On a side note, my mate sold his boat and trailer years ago, sent off the rego transfer papers for both, in the same envelope.

Every year he used to still get the rego renewal papers for the trailer and pass them on to the mate he sold them too, yet the boat got transferred fine....

Gotta love,

Well, I know where my license application is now.

It arrived today, via the postie. He found it in the back of his wifes car, half under a seat (she used to do the mail deliveries) and rather than post it, he brought it back to me, apologising profusely.

Looking at the envelope, it's got muddy boot prints all over it, a corner is torn and it's almost impossible to read the postage date on it. However, opening the envelope and everything is pretty much intact, all the important stuff anyway.

My marriage certificate copy needed replacing, but that's it (looks like it's soaked up the water from the muddy boot print).

After stopping in at the chemist to get it all sorted out, I went straight up to the post office and sent it all off via Registered Mail. At least now I can track the damn thing, and I know where it is.

So, after all that, it seems I still have the 28 days to wait, which I really don't mind, but I'm very happy to have found it all. At least I know it's not out in the wind somewhere now.

Jenna

PS. If I assume it arrives at L&RD in Melbourne by Tuesday, I should be getting it back around the 16th October!

Thankfully I got it back, and yes, I sent it via registered post this time.

I'm thinking I'll do the PTA the same way.

My LGS does the online system, you fill out a minimal piece of paperwork and they send it off.

I did my first PTA on paper and sent it off with my licence application to save a post pack, I also knew I wanted a .22LR but I didn't know if I would get one from the local or elsewhere..

For the .223 I did it in store and it was so easy!
As I already own, the permit came through the next day!
Pity I didn't have the spare cash to pay for it in full :(
Three paydays to go :D

Yeah get the gun shop to do the PTA online for you.

Faster and it returns it back to the dealer for you. Then you pay your permit fee in the dealer when you pick up your gun instead of going to pay for it at the bank separately.
