What firearm technology would you like to see in the future

Post by wayward » 24 Sep 2014, 3:58 pm

3D printing will open up new things in the future, that's an obvious one.

What else would you like to see in the future of shooting as technology evolves?

Caseless ammunition for small arms.

I'm so over sizing and trimming effing case necks.

I'd like to see a new method of demolition be applied to the countries firearm registries.

I'd settle for moly coating that's electroplated on so it doesn't come off on your fingers.

Chronos,

Ultra Tech in W.A who is supplying me with .416 Barrett projectiles uses a non-moly coating on their brass projectiles. Once the ammo arrives I'll post some pics.

brett1868,

Non moly? Hex Boron maybe?

I'll take a look if they have a site.

No idea what they're using but hoping they turn up before the long weekend cause I'm busting a nut to shoot the .416. I'll even get up 4am, drive 6hrs to the farm, shoot 4-6hrs and drive back that night.

Personally, the tech I'd like to see is affordable thermal Imaging scopes and one of those Tam Tam packs that never run out :)

This is a Western Australian invention. This bloke and his story were featured on an episode of ABC's "Australian Story" some time ago.
There's still a few of Wile. E Coyote's ideas that I haven't tried yet.

The inline ammo and electrical ignition is pretty cool. Firearm specific though of course.

Should have said caseless ammunition for conventional firearms.

How about a Laser Rifle ?????

No more worries about ammo inconsistencies, wind, uphill/downhill allowances, holdover, etc etc

Technology, what is it and why.

Shooting is about you, your abilities, your strengths, your resolution, Easy walk to where the game is, up hill down dale. No new technology there.

Rifles of all configurations and calibre have always been there, still it comes back to you.

How much have rifles and pistols changed since 1900, a little, that's about all. Technology is there, possibly not for us, we make do with what there is, for some time yet to come. What we would like to see, to do what, so we stop needing to walk, sight, what fun would that be?

Just used some flashy image stabilising binos, somehow put that tech in a rifle stock, barrel action stabilising, electronic firing system trigger safety then voice activated or pressure switch. Topped off with an even more advanced Burris eliminator scope self rangeing and adjusting. Then I might take more free hand shots instead of puss'en it up with the bipod.

Just jokes.

People always saying how bullet X doesn't have enough expansion and pencils through.

They wouldn't like a laser rifle ;)
