The Youngest Daughter is getting her Jnrs Permit Tomorrow

Post by bigfellascott » 11 Nov 2014, 1:07 pm

So the Youngest Daughter Turned 12 yesterday and she's booked in for Tomorrow to do her Junors Permit test, its ony 5 multi choice questions so shouldn't be a drama for her (she's nervous none the less) . This means everyone in my family has their Firearms License  She's been hanging to get this for the last 2yrs ever since her Older Sister got her's.

The little bugger has already laid claim to my Brno Mod 2! bloody kids :D at this rate I'll need to buy a bigger safe to accommodate this growing family of shooters.

I'm sure she'll be fine. You would have taught her all the do's and don'ts.
Browning BL-22 lever action...open sights

Yeah she will be fine I'm sure, once she's got her permit I will go right through all the do's and don't more, she's got a reasonable understanding now with diff parts of the rifle, not to go pointing it at anything she doesn't intend to shoot etc, she knows not to touch the trigger until she's ready to shoot etc, not to go through fences with a loaded firearm etc and to check when given one that its safe and hasn't been handed over with a round chambered etc. She won't be wondering around with a chambered round (mags will be loaded) but nothing in the breech until we are ready to shoot something (which is the way I shoot anyway).

She will be right, I'll have her in ship shape condition in no time. :D

SAFETY FOR ME IS THE PRIORITY - EVERYTHING ELSE IS SECONDARY TO THAT!

Same here, I don't trust the safety getting accidentally disengaged. Nothing up the spout until ready to fire. I don't have to use the safety doing it this way.

Yeah only time I've ever used a safety is in the Army, other than that I've never bothered with em as I don't chamber a round until I'm ready to shoot something (I varmint shoot and spotlight 99.9%) so it works fine in that situation - safest way to operate I reckon. If I don't get the shot off I open the bolt and put the round back in the mag.

Simple, safe and effective and ya never have to worry about shooting yourself or anyone else that way - accidents can and do happen and this is the best way I now to avoid getting accidentally shot - so far its worked well. :D

Cheers Westy, it's a shame it's needed at all really, it serves no real purpose when you think about it (they can't buy ammo or firearms etc), anyway them's the rules now so if that's what has to happen to allow them to shoot so be it.

All I can say is I'm glad I grew up in a time where we still had rights and weren't controlled like we are today with all this political correctness crap and worrying about minorities like we do.

Good to see a family tradition there! I'm a long way off having kids but looking forward to showing them the ropes. Completely agree with the chamber being empty until your ready to shoot. Only exception is with my lever action which I leave at half cock if I'm walking a creek and that's only ever if I'm alone.

Yeah I've heard about Jane - I still say today we are more controlled than we were back then, there are so many more rules now compared to then, in the old days I could drive down any of my local fire trails, these days they are all gated off, I could walk the streets with a 22 with a few rabbits and ducks hanging off my belt, walk straight past the pub and show the fella's some of what I got, now the Tac Response group would show up, we are constantly brainwashed at every turn in life these days, fear is the No.1 propaganda tool used, just about everything we do is dangerous and could kill us at every turn, you now need a license to fish, you can't have a fire on the side of the road to cook lunch, you can't even legally stop on the side of the road unless broken down, you can't camp where ever you like (certainly not on the side of the road) unless in designated spot.

The Government feels it has the right to spy on you're every thought these days, apparently we're all going to die from terrorists at every turn, just like the reds under the bed crap - the list goes on and on but essentially it boils down to us not being able to think for ourselves anymore and the Government knowing best and treating us like ****** and little slaves.

They've started doing advertising here telling people to "report anything suspicious" and the rest of the rhetoric.
