Faster than a speeding bullet

Post by Oldbloke » 24 Jul 2015, 9:48 am

New horizons flew past pluto last week and took some nice pics. Its speed was 58,500 km/h. That converts to about 53,313 fps. Thats fast. Sure beats my 223 and superman. And still took 9 1/2 years to get there. :wtf:

Speed of Stink?
Must be variable.
Silent but deadley > 1100 fps
Loud but lovely < 1100 fps

Fast,,,, yeah,,,,,,,,, But if it ever needs roadside assistance, I'll jump into the trusty old Landcruiser and catch up to it.

I'm moving through the Milky Way about about 800,000 feet per second. So I think the "New Horizons" should ease off the brakes :D

Lots of time for something to go wrong and the whole thing be a waste.

It's taken 9 1/2 years to reach Pluto with is about 4 light hours away. I'm hoping we can buy phase pulse laser guns before I die, no ballistics to mess around with and winds not a factor.....research time me thinks :)

I have a 250 watt water cooled YAG laser. I can set my neighbor's roof on fire from 500 yards ;) The power supply died, though, and it will cost more than a nice gun to make a new one.

You know how to excite me...I'm reasonably sure if I had that Laser I'd have burnt half the country down by now and some of it by accident

:D

I would love to bring it to the range, etc. But they are just so much more unpredictable than firearms as far as collateral damage is concerned. Once you get above a few watts they can reflect off a rock, piece of glass, metal, or a drop of water and blind people you didn't even know where there, in any direction, including behind you. It's unlikely, but it's also unlikely I'll hurt anyone if I dump a mag from my M16 out the window of my bedroom. I still don't do it. Blinding someone, yikes! Can you imagine the horror?

You can buy lasers powerful enough to pop balloons.

That could sort of be target shooting
