Accuracy = Stone Dead

Post by Die Judicii » 30 Nov 2015, 10:22 am

I am convinced that my partners Son and myself have now earned the unenviable title of "YFI" ( You F*^#ing Idiot )

Sunday afternoon saw us visiting a property that was extremely hilly with many rocks and gigantic boulders.
The property itself has a large population of rabbits, and was an ideal opportunity to experiment with the NiteSite, and video.

So my partners Son and I set up, and he started finding the bunny targets for me with the binocs.
They seemed content to just sit and sun themselves, and werent real easy as they blended in pretty well.

After a while my spotter guided me onto one that was about 280 meters out.
Looking at the screen, I found it and commented that it was a bit different colour than the others.
I started the video, and settled the reticle,,,, and squeezed off the shot.

When the dust settled, there was the "rabbit" still sitting there, but now he had a white patch on his chest.

Bugger,,,,,,,,   It was a rock.

We looked again through the binocs,, and it really did look like a rabbit.
When we got back to the house, we watched the video, and even then,,,, it still looked like a rabbit.

At least it gave us something to laugh about,,,,,,,,,,,,
I do not fear death itself... Only its inopportune timing!
I've come to realize that,,,,, the two most loving, loyal, and trustworthy females in my entire life were both canines.

Gave me something to laugh about as well :), I once put 3 rounds into a stump at almost 600m thinking it was a Roo. After the 3rd "miss"I walked over to check why the fcuk it hadn't moved and discovered my mistake. At least it had a nice 3 shot group on it and I wasn't missing :) Always a plus side to these mistakes.
The old being %100 sure of your target before pulling the trigger doesn't really apply in this situation as I was very sure it was a Roo, sometimes shadows and light play tricks on the old eyes. I was sure it wasn't a cow and there was nothing behind to damage so I took the shot.

Good luck with the bunnies mate and I'm jealous of the fun you'll have.
I'll be heading up to the Pilliga in January to chase some pigs if you're keen to catch up :)
How's my posting?

No no... we're required by law to wear day glow pink.. thats the spectrum that roos cant see,

So plenty of pink.. dresses too; roos are especially blind to pink dresses.. ;)

Die, thats a funny story, even though you were hitting the wrong target - you were hitting it well!!

Promite has been around for decades. Been eating it since i was a kid.

Vegemite is a yeast extract, Promite is a vegetable extract.

There's a few bits and pieces in the paddocks that still make me look long and hard in low light, even though I know they're there.

Vegemite is an Australian product made by a company now owned by an American corporation.
