I'm 60 years old and the question of what I did before guns is rather humorous to me, I can honestly answer I can't recall guns not being part of my life. One of my oldest memories is of the first time I pulled the trigger on a gun. I could not have been more that 6 years old, probably closer to 5 if not 4 years in age. I clearly recall standing between my father's arms as he held the Hi-Standard 22 caliber revolver in his hands and after he cocked the hammer I got to reach around and pull the trigger. I'm sure dad loaded the gun with 22 shorts for noise reduction and I do not remember the second time I shot a gun, but I know that if it was not that revolver then it was the 22 Winchester pump action rifle. My brothers also remember that revolver being the first gun that they shot as well.

I bought my first gun, used off of an individual, at age 16. In Oklahoma this was and may still be legal, in that the state's minimum age for owning a rifle or shotgun was and probably is 16. But in addition to guns I was into reading, fishing, and building plastic models.
I've been asked: "How many guns do you need to have?" My answer remains the same: "One more."

I used to stare at rabbits and other feral animals as I fantasised about shooting them, it was very frustrating.

I drew pictures of Airforce and Army shooting line bullets at people and vehicles in art class. Even Navy got in the act once in a while. This was in the 70s and they actually still got weirded out at one point and called my parents.

That was before I was regularly into guns, but as I said I first shot when I was 4.

Funny I always used to draw rifles and tanks and people in the general direction of the bullets flight at school too. That was in the 90s-00s as well though few years later than you. :allegedly:

I wonder if there is anyone here that didn't draw stuff like that :?: I would imagine the school shrink would be all over it these days, I'm sure they would probably recommend medication of some kind

Yea more than likely even back then only 10-15yr ago the diagnosis from my teachers was he's a boy get used to it. Now I'd be suspended and put on Ritalin or whatever they use in Aus.

It seems so different now, I was always told gee that's really creative ?. Later years of school one of my classes was Shooting, we had about 30 school owned shot guns kept on site and no one would even bat an eyelid at kids arriving on the bus with their own for clay target shooting class... Wouldn't see anything like that these days I'd expect.. And lets not forget the, occasional trip out for some bunnies with the ferrets if we did well (then we would have crumbed rabbit nuggets the next day)... aggggh yum... Oh and I didn't go to some flashy school either, it was a Public School...

Now according to my brother in-laws kids, they don't even have winners and losers in a game of whatever, its first and second etc.. and everyone wins ? or something like that ? :wtf: I think. :unknown:

The good old "participation award"

I can't think of anything more patronizing for kids.

Yea we did clay target at school in about 02-03. Was good fun. Nowadays they wouldn't let you do it. But it was perfectly normal back then and no one thought any different.
